Sure, everything could work out. I give it a 5% chance that one of these draft picks turns into a player as good as Tyler Herro or Michael Porter Jr. More likely is that the Rockets just became the Knicks and the Kings of the past 5 years or so. They have cut back spending on scouting and basically cut back on every avenue. Anyone who can't see what's going on is wearing blinders. I'm just giving everyone a fair warning if this trade is the final iteration (Oladipo for LeVert and a SRP) we royally ****ed up. They rushed multiple bad deals without getting a future cornerstone. The team had 3 public goals in this trade. I assumed they would get 2/3 in any deal. 1. Cornerstone young superstar (didn't get) (Simmons or Brown would have fit) 2. Young players here on cheap deals with Huge upside (didn't get) (MPJ or Herro would have fit) 3. Tons of draft assets (they got it) What really happened is Harden got an agent and **** got real and they panicked. Tilman said, clear the books, let me have a lower overhead but get me as many picks as possible. I think in the end Oladipo will be flipped for 2 FRP and an expiring contract.
I suppose. If it were me I'd be doing everything possible to give the team a chance to retain its pick that is destined to OKC this year. Having a scrappy team A LA the loveable 41-41 teams of the early 2010s does nothing for me. We need to tank with intent.
I agree. Heart comes with confidence and everyone in the world was ready to crown Wood after 20 games or whatever and comparing him to AD that he nutted up a little bit. It happens. I still think he can learn from that and develop a game that will inspire him further when matched up against the "greats".
I think we have different targets. JA is not who we are going after, we also didn't want Ben Simmons. Until we can get a specific player, we have to remain flexible. We are loaded with picks and various contract sizes to make deals. Be patient. Look at what Rafael did to acquire Christian Wood. He moved mountains to get that kid, who is not even playing well and averaging 23 and 10... When we are able to acquire another high level piece, I have faith in Rafael to do it. MPJ is clearly one of the pieces that Rafael is pining for.
A talent/asset that would've netted a first round pick? Which we got in return for him? Capela only netted one first round pick too, and that's his best case scenario.
Our previous window for contention ended with the Westbrook trade. The next window will open about 4-5 years from now if we're lucky. With that in mind, I suppose that 1st-rounder from the Cavs is the best outcome in this Allen situation.
Need to start sending Wood care packages of BBQ and Chicarron tacos. That will bulk him up fast. If he gains about 20lbs it would help his game significantly.
it's always LTS. monday tuesday wednesday thursday friday saturday and 2x on sunday. the tilbitch doctrine strives to achieve nirvana of maximum value extraction at all revenue and payroll levels
There could’ve been ways to include a Gordon or Tucker to offset the cost of Allen. If we were willing to wait then surely it could’ve happened. Tilman decided otherwise and definitely cut costs, understandably so but still. He’s just not a sound businessman. This was an emotional trade.
Allen is a free agent after this years and Houston received Cavs 2022 first round pick. It’s about gathering assets for possible future trades or rebuilding through the draft. Flexibility. You wouldn’t get much in terms of teams trading for a rental player.
Ive actually lost sleep over the fact we opted for oladipo over LeVert and not wanting to pay Allen who will be a top 5 big man in the league
I don’t think so on the last part in the nba (due to new CBA) you can’t bottom out payroll like the Astros did . There’s a min team salary and if we trade everyone for assets (or use assets to get rid of them ) then we’d be below that . that being said , idk what the penalty for that is ... so maybe it’s worth it if we are just giving up second round pick (worth it for Tilman)
Yeah, but we are not dealing with a typical owner. We have a highly leveraged owner that also can save an additional 10-20 million a year by being under the cap closer to the league minimum than the maximum.
I’ve been wondering why the Rockets didn’t keep Allen and Prince so this makes sense. I would’ve loved to see a Wood/Allen front court pairing. Allen could’ve covered up a lot of Wood’s mistakes on defense and the Rockets might actually win in the rebounding column with both of them on the court. Of course Tilman cheaped out though. I’m starting to think that Tilman told Harden that he won’t be able to pay the tax for a couple seasons and that’s what led Harden to really want out.
The trade wasn’t about acquiring any players that could help the Rockets. It never was. Before Dinwiddie was injured his name was mentioned but he is a free agent after this year. Same goes for Allen and Oladipo. The deal was about having assets and flexibility meaning Houston has plenty of picks to dangle for a trade or they can use these picks to rebuild through the draft. The expiring VO contract takes 21 mil off the books for next years spending in the free agency market if Rox choose that route with really good players like Drummond, Jrue, John Collins etc. The desk essentially replenishes the damage done by the CP3 and Westbrook trades.
