In reading an article about how each of the involved teams did in the trade, I found this little gem buried at the end of the Rockets section:

"On the subject of Fertitta: The Rockets apparently opted to dodge the luxury tax instead of acquiring Jarrett Allen, which is a shamefully stingy decision. Perhaps Harden was discussing more than his own future when he said the situation in Houston couldn't be fixed."

Does anyone know how accurate this is? Did we pass on a promising young big just to keep out of LT territory?

Even with Wood in place as our starter, Allen could have been dealt later in the year for assets that better fit our team. He would have been a valuable chip to have.

Did Tilman cheap out on us yet again?

I would have liked to have Allen on the Rockets. Not surprised one bit if the reason we don't have him is Frittata's stinginess.

It makes no sense to not take Allen in this trade unless you are stingy.

It's the reason Harden left in the first place. Tilman is about making money by offering up the least best product he can. It's the way he runs his businesses, and it's not a shock it's the way he runs this team.

I was really excited to have an Allen-Wood starting pair, that was the thing I was most interested in from the trade...

Isnt Wood the center for Silas? Allen isnt hitting any outside shots so apart from defense wouldnt really be THAT much of an upgrade in this offense other than rebounding.

Listen, I wanted Allen, but the idea that we didn't take him to avoid the luxury tax is silly. His cap hit is like 3 mil. There are a million other ways to avoid it. I just think the team didn't think he was a good fit with Silas's system and preferred another FRP.

Allen was the sweetener for them taking on Prince.

Trading LeVert for Oladipo was additional cost savings.

The most egregious part of this deal is that Tilman made 2 subsequent trades to save money. Anyone who can't see that doesn't use their brain.

Two things, looking at spotrac, they wouldn’t have been in luxury tax with Allen and not sure he fits with Silas system.
My thoughts are they traded him now for a first as opposed to the deadline when they will probably have a fire sale.

I get that, but you don't pass on a valuable player who can be flipped later for something of value. Unless you're Tilman, that is.

Even a 2nd round pick is worth more than nothing, especially for a rebuilding team.

Your logic is not very solid.

You assume Tilman did not want him because he is afraid to pay him, but you somehow assume that Tilman will trade the one he just paid so that in order to keep Allen.

If so, why should Tilman worry about acquiring Allen, he can also be traded.

    Just saying.

They didn't. They essentially got a FRP for Allen.

Wood is soft. Pairing him with Allen would've covered up a lot of his weaknesses but Tilman is a cheap b*stard so we have Leonard Charmin as our starting center

How much would have retaining Allen cost in luxury tax? Im no billionaire but there is a mitigation point where you have to look at the talent vs the cost and if this guy would have cost 30Ms in luxury tax well then it was an easy decision - I hate Fertitta too just saying.
