Pretty sure Stone's hoping for an end result like Celtics where we land 2+ all-stars in the lottery. It makes a lot of sense because if you want to win a ring in this league you either sign a top 5 player in FA or gamble for them in the lottery like OKC was able to do (but failed because of cheap ownership, *cough* we have Tilman tho).
Wow, to think James, publicly, just had to say something more bland, last night, to end with a much better public perception in Houston, his home of many impressive years.
If need be? Do we know why he’s sitting out to begin with? I thought originally it was because they weren’t pressing charges in one of those cases. Is that what it is/was?
2022 Nets / Bucks first are all but guaranteed to be very late. 2021 first swap is incredibly pointless, and the 2023 likely will be as well. So the interesting picks are Nets 24/26 1st, 25/27 swaps I’m seeing 2 late first, then 2 future first with potential, 2 swaps with minor potential (because let’s be real what are the odds were going to be good again under Tilman), and an expiring Victor Oladipo. This haul is comparable to what OKC got for WB, if you think about how CP was used, and how they turned him into a couple of first. Trade was a big fail, IMO. No guarantee of a very good pick or young player. Simmons/Maxey or Simmons and 2 first would have been better.
What? I wasn't complaining, I am excited that those picks have a chance to be useful in the short term as well as the long term.
I dont agree with this take by @Clutch . This deal was there in NOV. Stone didn't have to do anything to get the Nets to give up those picks. In fact the deal in Nov was better because it included dimwidee. Had the rockets made the trade then prior to dimwidee being injured and losing all value... they couldve flipped not only Lavert, but also dimwidee!
This is sort of reminding me of the Celtics rebuild. The Nets were the team that handed the Celtics their massive amount of picks. It didn't work for the Nets and the Celtics drafted really well and now are going to be contenders for the next decade or so. I mean that's the best case scenario.
You could have had that draft haul minus the near worthless Milwaukee pick with Allen, LaVert, Dinwiddie (though Injured) and Prince. Instead you get broke down dude from the Pacers. Horrifying cap space move. LaVert for Victor is even worse than Harden for nothing.
What superstar is gonna want to play for Tillman who ran off the 3 most important pieces on a contending team or at least a 2nd round playoff team.
