It's going to be interesting to see what happens if McConnell supports it. 3-4 GOP Senators already seem apt to support it. If McConnell joins in, I wonder if others do too - and how close they can get to the 17 they'd need. And I agree - forcing all these people onto the record is a critical part of this.

"The left in america has incited more political violence than the right."

One week after a failed coup that ransacked the Capitol and terrorists went to hang the Vice President.

I am curious as well, and it would be a major power play by McConnell. He can certainly switch some Senate votes, but can he switch enough to get to the threshold?

Yes that's what happens always and leads to the fall of empires.
Peace makes people complacent and then when war comes to their door they don't know how to fight.

But there is ongoing radicalisation of millions of americans. Posters here have described how their soccer moms have slowly turned into supporting riots and terrorists. Radicalisation, extremism and terrorism has grown its roots and can reach everywhere through social media.

After Trump there can be another Trump who has learned from his mistakes and secures some colonels. Then what?
Wait for the police and the parliament?

When someone points at you with a gun - as the Trumpsters do right now to american democracy- you can't respond by writing a complain letter or sue them.

I do not think that McConnell without the votes already in hand would have publicly stated that Trump needs to be removed.

...that would be interesting to watch.

...All that's needed (and I think we all miss this) is a majority vote in the Senate of the senators present at the time of the vote.

...wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility at all for McConnell to have some senators...indisposed...or not present for the vote...
...freeing up however many Republican votes (perhaps as few as half a dozen) it would take to get the Donald out of there...

...that's a long game, even for somebody as politically shrewd as McConnell is.

    ...wonder how's his 5-iron swing?;)

Party over country. That's the exact stance these individuals have taken.

It is a punch to the gut to anybody that cares about this country.

When did McConnell publicly say that. NY Times only reported a leak. Did I miss something? Did someone actually get Mitch to say it publicly?

He doesn't have to say it publicly. If he let it leak it is as good as saying it publicly because he doesn't let leaks happen to the press with no intention.
    According to CNN.

Make no mistake... the GOP message is clear in one of trying to bully the Democrats in a threat that their cult will just get more violent against them if they don't back down.

The big question is why the GOP cares???

My guess is money. They need his supporters via his super pacs to funnel money that trickles into their campaigns & their pockets. Impeaching Trump takes him out of the 2024 running which shuts down his pac or at least significantly slows down his ability to raise money.

There is also a bit of fear of his supporters literally, and also many that are also true believers who are in the cult themselves. The two new Congresswomen seem to fit that mold.

Pretty sad state, and proof that the GOP is a danger to Democracy, and they cannot be allowed to gain any significant power in the next few election cycles.

...I hope it's more like a bucket of cold water dashed into the face, my friend.

Now, again, is the time for strength. Of heart and mind and will.

...we can't make everybody see what's going on...

...but we have to make sure everybody knows what they need to be looking at...
