I'd imagine that Moscow Mitch sees this opportunity to completely bar Trump from ever running again for president. I mean, whatever motivates the man. Maybe Schumer can convince him into an emergency legislation. Mitch proved how quickly senate can get through a hearing when the GOP sped through Amy's confirmation hearings lol.
Except for opportunism I see it another way too. He has more information and intelligence about the direct involvement of Trump that hasn't been published yet so he has immediately left the ship.

Wonder what the Senate voting makeup looks like for a conviction. I think it can happen if Mitch is warming up to it.
I don't think it's crazy. Every thing in Washington is about power. The more standard Republicans know the Trump brand is forever tainted and will lose most elections, like it lost the Senate. Their only hope is to exorcise Trump from the party and impeachment is a big step in that direction. I expect censures for the other perpetrators also.
