I had a cousin who was lets say a wanderer and he would show up about every 6 weeks or so and spend a couple of days or maybe a week and then just hitchhike and leave.

But when he came down he would immediately grab the shotgun and go hunting and then he would cook whatever he shot.

So I was able to sample some of everything.

    Squirrel (delicious)
    Rabbit (delicious)
    Coon (not bad)
    Armadillo (good)
    Snake ( kinda bland)
    Chicken Hawk/Buzzard ( like Chicken)
    Possum (good)
Deer ( never really liked it that much) but my cousin never cooked it.

If Squirrel and Rabbit where easy to get it would be a staple.

When we all got pellet guns for christmas we went out one night and shot a shitload of those blackbirds that sleep in the bushes at night they were not tasty at all.

    rabbit
    alligator
    bison
    dove
    goose
    deer
    elk
    rattlesnake

Many years ago, I ate a sampler platter at the Big Texan in Amarillo. It had rattlesnake, rabbit, montain oysters (although they called 'em "calf fries"), and (I think) deer. Seems like it's not on their menu any more, though.

I stay away from reptiles and believe jontro does too

I am into fowl however and I recently trapped the wild caught, big breasted bed thrasher- a little exotic and gamey, but worth it.
