If there is one thing that stood out to me about this recent event where the Trump insurgents are storming the capitol, it's that there is a lot of empty rhetoric and implications without actually stating what they want.

They do not actually care about medicare for all, green new deal, or even worry about abortion rights that will be debated on these next 2 years.
So what is it? They get irrationally angry when they realize non-whites will be afforded the same privileges that they have had for centuries in this country. They want to expel people who do not speak English as their first language or whose ancestors did not come here from Europe. They want America to be for Whites, preferably megachurch tele-evangelical. Jesuits, Mormons, and liberal sects need not apply.

When they say Soros is controlling the liberals, they mean Jewish people have too much influence in the US and the world.
When they say Obama was born in Kenya, they mean that he is subhuman.
They call people socialists and communists. When a black family move into their communities they put nooses on their doors. They scream they will never succumb to shriah law when a muslim/arab/south asian family moves in. They cling to their proud "Nordic" heritage and proclaim remember Vienna!

This is one reason why Biden was immune to the smears of Trump and conspirators during the election cycle: Biden is white as well.

When you confront them, they talk about squirrel oil and other nonsense like DC state hood when in reality they are hiding what they want in their hearts because they know if everyone else knew what's there they'd be shunned from society.

If you think these Proud Boys are in the cult of Trump because of Trump's charisma alone, I have a some steaks to sell you. They hear his and others in governments audible whistles and have responded as expected.

But there is no place for them or their ideology in the US in the 21st century or the rest of the Western liberal world. You cannot be civil with a racist to make them see the light, either they will either cross the river Jordan themselves or live their lives in shadows continuing to use coded language to spread their ideas.
Racists needs to be identified, delegitimized, and ultimately disengaged. There are no good faith debates with a racist because you cannot win their heart and mind.

There's a certain point on the stupid curve after which the things that people want to believe and what people do believe and what they are pretending to believe all become muddled.

They react viscerally to everything. They see a brown/black person and immediately feel how they feel. Everything on top of that is just window dressing. In some sense I don't think these people have ever believed anything that can be put into word at all. They just constantly react emotionally with no filter, like animals. Words/ideas are abstractions that don't really exist.

If you identify with your thoughts and feelings, you have an existential crisis when those thoughts and feelings are challenged.

If you identify with your awareness of your thoughts and feelings, you begin to understand why you think and feel the way you do, and you can also begin to recognize your privilege.

Ya, that's essentially the ability to be introspective. I notice people who are writers are probably the most introspective. Something about writing a lot practices introspection skills.

A large mantra of conservative culture is the notion that "sticking to what you believe in" is a valuable trait rather than adopting views based on new information provided or just having the ability to change your mind based on new evidence.

Following this line of thought, once upon a time, such people knew this way of acting was not acceptable out in the greater world and society. But part of Trump's siren call to them was that it's all okay -- we're great. Let's let loose. And "MAGA" just came to mean, internally, subconsciously, act like a toddler, don't use higher reasoning.

My time with interacting with many white-nationalists online and irl, I notice a common theme in most of my conversations with them often results in them becoming more light hearted and pretending they didn't care about the subject matter that was being debated in the first place and really to some vague platitudes again about communism and the left.

The moment you trap them in a debate that involves nuance, they shift the conversation to being more light hearted and less serious. They start making fun of you for "taking things to seriously" or say "it's just a meme". But they'll say that after a 30 minutes back and forth of vehemently defending their position.

I completely agree. Not to derail the thread, but this is actually something we're seeing a lot of on the left these days too, which is very concerning. Critical thought is out.

Of course they don’t. Evil deeds are done in the dark where they can’t see.

Trump’s son in law and close advisor is Jewish. His daughter converted.

And he’s racist. And his cult is racist.

I have to disagree with you, on the left everything is gospel and if you don't agree you are blind and content.

But yeah critical thought is out.

Trumpers believe whatever their trusted news source at the time tells them to believe. They can’t think for themselves.

Trumpers are nothing more than goldfish. Fat ugly goldfish.

God I sure hope that some of FB friends do not actually believe that God will work a miracle that will allow Trump to continue on as POTUS.

Biden drinking children's blood, running a pedo ring and ruining the US with SOCIALISM are also beyond the pale.
