Not asking for specific trades, there is a thread for that. What are the parameters of any deal that you think is reasonable given all of the constraints that exist (ie the limited number of teams james will re-up with, preference for an eastern conference team I assume from the rockets perspective, assets the team could give up and still be a contender, etc). From my perspective, the Rockets need to walk away from any trade that does not provide an obvious path to having a contending roster by the 2024 season when we pay the Russell Westbrook piper of our picks to OKC. To that end, I have 3 things I need for a James Harden trade to be considered:

    1. Players: Barring a return of a superstar, HOF type player that can slide in to James' role I want several (3+) players under the age of 25 that have already shown they have the ability to be rotation players on a contending team. Preferably one of them has shown the ability to be a top 2 player on a contender. Preferably these players will be on longer contracts or their contracts expire when the Rockets cap opens up after Wall's expires.

    2. Draft picks: Perfect world I would like to recover the picks we are sending out to OKC but I am willing to front load with multiple picks in the '21 draft. If Philly is the trade partner I want their 2nd rounder from NYK in addition to their FRP.

    3. Cap relief: The rockets signed many players with the idea that their title window was now. Those players do not likely fit where the rockets will be after a Harden trade. So I am looking at getting out from under any contract that extends beyond next season for any player over 25. Obviously someone like Wall is unlikely given the Rockets would likely have to entice a team to take that contract with picks or young players.

So, anyway, I presume many share these general expectations of a Harden trade but was interested in others perspectives. Candidly, it seems pretty clear that the rockets are going to lose in this deal (for sure in the short term) but this is where the team is atm. Thoughts?

There isn't one. When you trade a top 5 player you aren't going to get back an equal value. The best case scenario would be the nets trade, and the celtics still haven't made the finals.

Massively high upside. Whether that's very young players or lottery picks, and probably a lot of both. No use for any veteran players that people keep putting in these trades. If you trade an MVP and you're not getting an MVP back, you're going for.a rebuild.

You aren't aiming for equivalent value, you're only aiming for a chance to get equivalent value in 5 years. You're trading Tesla's megahyped stock now for a portfolio of fresh growth stocks with positive signs.

Young potential star and picks does it for me. I'd like to get MPJ and Jaylen Brown if in any way possible.

Jaylen Brown or Jamal Murray + picks would be the closest

A successful trade would be where:

    1) All teams involved come to terms.
    2) The proposed trade would then go to the league office for approval.
    3) After the league office reviews the terms, they deem it legal.
    4) The trade is official
    5) Woj or Shams tweets

Agreed. However, doing nothing is not a realistic option either. I guess you can try to hold onto James until his contract expires and then he walks for nothing but I doubt he is going to give you the same effort that he has in the past if that is the rockets play. And, I expect, the rockets would be blackballed by future free agents who watched the 2 year cluster that would ensue from such a plan.

    (1) A young star with high upside

    (2) At least one plug-and-play vet

    (3) Multiple FRPs and/or first round equivalent rookies (e.g. Maxey).

I don't agree with the notion that the trade should assist in a full rebuild. Wall + Wood + another young star is more than enough to remain competitive as we retool.

As long as fat Morey doesn’t get him (and better yet JH eliminates Filthadelphia in the postseason)

This is the reward that Stone will be getting from any realistic Harden trade :

    - a prospect or 2 that for sure wont be the cornerstone for any NBA franchise, nor will be anyone average 18+ points per game currently in the league or in his career. Max contract players like Simons will make Tilman very nervous.
    - maximum 2 late first round picks, could be protected picks and even extended beyond 21 or 22 seasons. Second rounders are just craps so wont matter.
    - dead weight contracts/overpriced vets that Stone will want to dump eventually.

Not unlikely but I am hoping that Stone's work getting Wood as well as obtaining a little draft capital in his first few months gives us fans a glimmer of hope that he can turn James into pieces of team that can be competitive in the near future. I presume/hope that TF is aware that his franchise's value is greatly impacted by the talent on the roster and talent gets paid.

    As an outsider I thinks it’s basically what’s been reported ;

    1) nba all star/all nba player or a young player with that potential

    2)draft picks

    3) solid veteran role player and or young rotation player on rookie contract

    4) salary cap relief

imo 3 out of 4 is coming back in any harden trade with #1& #2 as prerequisite’s. #3 is likely as well just to balance salary where #4 is definitely going to be sought after by tillman and Houston but not necessarily guaranteed to be in any package or a deal breaker as not every team whose interested can provide that to houston

would be a win if we can get 4 or more first round picks.
