Breaking 1-06-21: MAGA terrorist attack on Capitol

Yes we know that some of them threatened the Vice President, there have been threats to Mitt Romney as well. The President less than an hour earlier said Pence wasn't a patriot.

They were not just an unruley mob just trying to disrupt a congressional session. They broke into the Senate and House Capitol building, they defied officers and security, they went into the actual chambers and some of them did things like defile offices and even left messages for Pelosi among others. They were attempting to stop democracy.

Now, I agree with you that if they REALLY wanted to be terrible they could have killed all of the security guards and they could have broken through the doors sealed where all the congressmen were huddled and hiding, and they did not do that... and that is something that needs to be considered. However we still know that they shot and killed a woman, so far at least 4 people are known dead from what happened.

They certainly were not just protesters and also "political opponent" isn't really accurate either. I know many people that voted for Trump because he more closely aligned with their political beliefs but never would have stormed the Capitol and indeed many of the 35,000 Trump supporters did not storm the Capitol....... so yes, I am comfortable calling those that broke in as domestic terrorists, same with those at ANTIFA rallies that threw cocktails at the police and other officials.

 

Any active duty military or police who were part of the insurrection need to be the first that get punished.

...I'm not talking about the Donald or Ted Cruz or anybody else posing as an "elected official" or a "civil servant" (at least not right now)...we all know already exactly what particular flavor of vicious and scurrilous and stupid they are (no matter how much money they steal or whatever the hell it says on their degrees or however many book deals they get scuttled), so we can set that aside for a moment...

What was this particular event about?

I laughed at all of the caterwauling and shenanigans about the election results being fraudulent...and we heard every dimwitted reason for doubt as to the results that any idiot could have, slobbering out of his or her mouth:

• Hugo Chavez came back from the dead and stood in line with a bunch of other walking-dead democrats and voted
• Lizard space aliens beamed up the real election results so we need to mobilize the Space Force to go get them back
• A supercomputer called HAL-9000 was singing "Daisy Bell" in the middle of the night of the election and effed up the vote counts
• My dog ate my mom's first ballot so I had to go cast another one to make up for that one because the liberals do it too
• Because Jesus

Everybody (including me) indulged these and so many more fantasies about a stolen election...and I did that already knowing the reason why we were having to go through this (and again, the Donald or any other public figure may be the pointer, but they aren't the ones holding the stick)...

...so again: what is the grievance? What great oppression or crime or injustice was set upon these people that warranted a response like this?

The Donald is on a recorded phone call, shaking down another elected official, twisting his arm like some knock-off script version from the movie Casino to get votes thrown out or discarded or lost or whatever, in the ONE place where he figured he should have won where he didn't win...

...and people want to putter around this like it's some kind of damned American Revolution re-eneactment (and there's damned sure been enough practice with Civil War reenactments for this to have been a hell of a lot more organized and premeditated than spontaneous)...

In the Donald's mind (wherever that is if it even exists), and in the minds of these silly (and now, finally and obviously, dangerous) people...

...the last thing that was supposed to derail the Make America Great Again train was a bunch of Negroes who weren't even supposed to be allowed to ride in the passenger car in the first place.

And once Negroes start to run in that race, everybody wants to start to change the rules...or put obstacles on the course...or switch out the timekeeper...

Too many Negroes were part of the process then, too. Everybody (Northern white Yankees and Confederate white Rebels) both agreed that that wasn't going to work. Flushed "reconstruction" right down the nearest toilet...

OK, and I did write that before I knew about the pipe bombs and other relevant details. Again, I’m generally cautious about using the term “terrorists” as its a label that is commonly abused for political reasons.

One thing to note — I think you were suggesting that these people shot and killed a woman. Are you perhaps referring to the incident in which a woman was shot and killed by the police defending the Capitol building?

 

I did not know that the shot was fired by a Capitol official, initially it was reported that the shot was fired by another supporter. Right now we are at four total dead. I know at least one officer died from his injuries, no idea who the other two were or how they died.

Terrorist is a strong word, and I would have a strong problem is every person that voted for Trump was labeled a terrorist. However those that broke through the Capitol and overwhelmed officers I am comfortable with labeling as domestic terrorists. As I said, same with those that are in ANTIFA and threw fire cocktails at officers and were arrested.

 

I believe Capitol Police confirmed that they shot the woman since she was attempting to go into an area that was sealed off. Video shows that it definitely came from the side Capitol Police was on.

 

I agree there were many black and brown in the capitol terrorist attack still doesn't change the fact that had this been done by a predominantly black group the outcome would have been different.

 

These people really do believe that the election was stolen (at least some of them).

They are not all "stupid" either, I know a number of them that are Judges, lawyers, detectives, engineers and other fields that generally require above average intelligence.

They believe that the courts and politicans are against the President and that they never were given a chance to fully investigate fraud.

I think a lot of things go into it....... but there is ZERO doubt that race and gender play a pervasive part of all of this. Yes there are some black men that were involved (but very few) and there are older white women involved; but the overwhelming majority are WHITE MEN.

That is unfortunate, I wish no one was shot and killed. While what she did was foolish, she is someone's wife and mother and daughter.

 

Yea...she was halfway through the broken window when she was shot and fell backwards...ignoring warnings.

I just think you have a naive view of believing that public service announcements of saying that "riots are bad" have any value.

So do you disagree with MLK when he says "riots are the language of the unheard"? Because there were riots during his time and that is what he said about them. He said they are wrong and unproductive but he understands human nature. Again distinguish between a normative and positive claim.

The people who rioted at the Capitol didn't riot because we don't say "rioting is bad" enough. They rioted because they were fed information for the past few months that the election was stolen and every legal process was exhausted to remedy a stolen election. That's why they rioted. If the claims of the election being stolen were true and every legal recourse exhausted, insurrection would be nearly justified. Actually it would be justified especially when we know in their minds every legal recourse has been used up.

You are ignoring context and history when you equivocate all riots as the same. Don't pretend it's some high horse principle you are upholding with your view. It isn't. Context matters.

Maybe, but I think once the rioters entered the Capitol the officers did not shoot because they were so greatly outnumbered and had they started shooting then they would have all been killed and crushed... so they knew their only chance to survive was to try to keep it from escalating.

Now, OUTSIDE the Capitol yeah, a bunch of black protesters and young white protesters would have received at a minimum tear gas treatment if not more.

Overall it is amazing that only 4 people died in all of this.

Had BLM breached the Capitol and entered there would be President Trump send the FBI to infiltrate the organization, arrest all the leaders and cripple the organization.

I'll say this, if I am a radical Trump supporter or a Proud Boy or a White Supremacist I am VERY nervous that Merrick Garland is not in charge, he is not someone that really is lenient contrary to what the press says. He will use his powers to go after extremists.

 

After all of the outrage on the right about Kapernick, yeah black folks are laughing.
