Even now he the favorite to be the Republican nominee. What if he tells the gop either you bend the knee or I run and split the vote and give the democrats the win. What will the Republicans do?
The Senate should take care of this problem by impeaching his ass and denying him the right to serve a federal office ever again. Then, he should be charged with numerous crimes and sent to federal prison for life.
This is why Republicans should be on board with impeachming him. It's not so much about these last 2 weeks of this presidency but more about about ensuring he can never run again.

It's over for Trump and the GOP. He threatened their lives on Wednesday and it's one thing to scare citizens and it's another to scare members of congress. Politicians are the ultimate survival class. They are the cockroaches of society and they will figure out a way to survive past Trumpism.
If Republicans truly want to destroy their party there is no better way than this. Further for the Hawleys, Cruzs, and Rubios out there who have been defending Trump how do you think he will treat you in the 2024 primaries. Remember TED how he called your wife ugly, your dad was involved in the Kennedy assassination and that you stole the IA caucus. The Republicans who have aspiration for President who have carried water for Trump should know by now that if it comes to you running against him or his designated successor that will get you nothing.. Loyalty only goes one way for Trump and you counting on Trump's help or support is delusional.
Trump has had mini-strokes as POTUS and is obese ... but ... The great weight of the office of the Presidency does not appear to have aged the man. My only conclusion is that Trump must have not felt the great weight, since Trump is Trump focused. OIOW the office of the Presidency has been aged by the great weight of Donald J Trump and vice versa.
We should not overestimate the Republican voters cognitive abilities. This is an understated point. Trump is teetering on a cliff mentally and physically. He's already in sad shape, but he's about to hit a wall and slide down the mountain precipitously. I won't be surprised if he keels over or has Rudy's oatmeal brain before 2024.
In the end, they'll all line up behind the R that is most likely to win, Trump or not. Never forget how Cruz started doing tricks and begging for treats from the guy who insulted his wife just because that guy was the most popular R.
