They were at the furthest point of retreat. They couldn't fall back further without total capitulation.

If they were going to try less than lethal, it should have been hours earlier when they breached the outer fences, but SOMEONE didn't want to deploy any protective forces and the response was cobbled together at the last minute.

Using less than lethal requires preparing proper defense of the threat.

If they had been properly prepared, less than lethal at the outer fences before they breached the building would have been nice. And maybe those unindentifeed special forces federal police goons who aimed at people faces with rubber bullets and gas canisters in Portland, too. But for some reason the weren't deployed and all you had was the regular capital police in sports jackets doing something they weren't trained for.

The fact trump couldn't be more proactive in protecting senators is criminal on its own.. Someone was killed..ieds inside senate..these are the leaders of the usa...maybe trump is laughing thinks it's funny...this is very very serious...one person dead is one too many

 

My guess is these people are thinking about plausible deniability going forward. They used Trump for his power for four years and now that the downside of being associated with him is about to exceed the benefits, they're all going to pretend they never liked him anyway.

On the plus side, this ends any chance that Trump or any of his inner circle had of running again in 2024. And it has basically de-fanged the Sedition Caucus for the foreseeable future.

I agree. Those poor guys were hung out to dry yesterday. But something definitely smells here. At the very least all who were in charge of security should be fired immediately. It's been reported that there was little to no cooperation between the various law enforcement agencies charged before this event. Why? And, as I pointed out in another thread it was by sheer dumb luck (or was it?) that we got the "World's Dumbest" riot mob yesterday. Just imagine what the conversation would be like today if armed terrorists had infiltrated the mob, gained access to the building and began executing members of Congress and the Senate. Or destroyed priceless historical paintings and sculptures. Or set off suicide bombs in the building.

In order to even have a rally in DC, you have to apply for a permit with DHS and the National Park Service so law enforcement can get some idea of the security that will be needed. Yet the "story" we are getting is that they were all somehow caught unaware. Now add to that the fact that these groups were openly advertising their intentions on social media at a month before yesterday and yeah, something smells really bad here.
