they're loving this guy in NYC https://nypost.com/2021/01/06/austin-rivers-insane-3-point-spurt-propels-red-hot-knicks/ excerpt: Austin Rivers is becoming the Knicks’ Mariano Rivera — an elite closer with ice water in his veins. No lead is safe against these Knicks. And Rivers. Two days after rallying from 15 points down in Atlanta, the Knicks came home and roared back from an 18-point hole to wipe out the Jazz, 112-100, at the empty Garden with more late fourth-quarter magic from Rivers. In his first game as a Knick at the Garden, Doc Rivers’ son scored 14 straight points down the stretch that included four straight 3-pointers and a floater with the shot clock winding down. The Knicks moved to 5-3 after winning their fifth game in six outings. It’s their best record after eight games since the magical 2012-13 season. Rivers finished with 23 points on 9 of 14 shooting. Rivers has been sensational in the fourth quarters of the last three games after missing all preseason and the season’s first five games with a groin pull. “I love this stage,’’ Rivers said. “I know every player says that when they come here, but I really do. I thrive on it. You have to be OK with missing a shot, making the wrong play. If you have the ball in your hands at the end of the game, you can’t worry about the makes and misses. You have to trust yourself and live with the outcome.” more at the link
Rivers is pretty lucky. Clips, Rocks, now Knicks. Him being on winning sides. Surprised the Knicks are good again.
So happy for this guy. I feel like he got disrespected in Htown... even taking a paycut to stay. I hope he has a breakout year and beat his dad’s ass to boot!
I'm a big fan of Austin Rivers. He is a lot like Lonzo Ball yeah he won't fill the stat sheet but he does all the little things you need from a winning pg. I dunno that BS about him being a closer with ice water (lets face it if Rivers is your closer your ****ed) but he is average to slightly above average at everything from 3 pt shooting, ball handling, defense, attacking the rim and making good decisions with the ball. If he played in Europe where everyone is more cerebral and team oriented he'd def be more appreciated but here in the NBA he is perpetually underpaid so he is always a great value signing. Dude also took a massive paycut to stay on the Rockets and only left cuz Dumbtoni wouldn't give him playing time for some reason.
Not so phenomenal tonight I see. 12 pts on 12 shots. Biggest (-19) on team. https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=401267285
I never cared for Austin Rivers whatsoever when he played for the clippers. That being said I fell in love with his game and what he brought to the Rockets while here in Houston I cannot say the same about Chris Paul though
This is probably the best opportunity he will ever have in his career. I hope he is able to take advantage of it.
