I don't know, smart guy -- why don't you take it up with the Republicans and Democrats using that word for today's shitshow. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/01/06/democrats-republicans-reaction-trump/ Great prediction though, as always.
With this article, it's pretty clear this was organized (poorly) and that leadership was in on it. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive...action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage When a mob of President Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol building on Wednesday, they forced an emergency recess in the Congressional proceedings to officially certify the results of the 2020 presidential election. The disruption came shortly after some Republican lawmakers made the first of a planned series of highly unusual objections, based on spurious allegations of widespread voter fraud, to states’ election results. The chambers were separately debating an objection to Arizona’s results when proceedings were halted and the Capitol was locked down. When the Senate reconvened at 8 p.m., and the House of Representatives an hour later, the proceedings — including the objection debates — continued, although some lawmakers who had previously planned to vote with the objectors stood down following the occupation of the Capitol. Here are the six senators and 121 representatives who voted to sustain the Arizona objection. We will update this list on Thursday with the results of any other state objections. Butter and sugar it as much as you want, it's an attempted coup. The only reason it didn't succeed is the politicians hedged against losing and only did their part, which is delaying proceedings long enough for the traitorous 'protestors' to storm the capital. This is outright disgusting and needs an answer.
Angry rioters storming the capital is an attempted coup. If you don't understand that, then you are either on the Trumpster bandwagon or you don't know much about politics.
they were armed, with pipepombs, ties for hostages, and looking for traitor "Pence" they were not simpy wanting their voices to be heard they were there to stop the transition of power
Not this drama queen. A coup is far too harsh a term for protesters and rioters voicing their displeasure over explosions of rampant election bullshit. A coup involves an attempt to seize power from the leadership. Trying to shout at some shitty politicians isn't it. Even if a few broke laws or a few wished it was a coup. This is like a bball team losing due to a bad call from Joey Crawford and deciding to flip some cars.
Read the very short NYT article. Couple that with Trump's withholding the National Guard until it was clear that his paltry 'forces' weren't going to be able to do anything, and it's an organized movement to change the presidential outcome...aka Coup.
Did anyone believe that those angry rioters posed a credible threat of actual government takeover? Did even they believe it? Calling what we saw yesterday an attempted coup does seem like a stretch to me, even in the context of Trump’s sustained efforts to steal the election. If Trump sends in the military to stop the transfer of power, that’s a coup.
You really like quibbling over semantics. Members of both parties who experienced it have called it an attempted coup. *shrug* I simply brought back the thread to highlight these old posts that mocked people who doubted Trump would accept a defeat. He has not and, based on about 3/4 a century of evidence, will not. But no, I didn't think idiots, even by the thousands, were going to override the election and take power. They probably can't even balance a check book on most months or figure out a DC surface street bus map, (it's actually hard). Does that make the attempt, and the treasonous grandstanding of Hawley and Cruz any less awful? Does it make Ghouliani calling for "trial by combat" and Trump family tweets calling for the people to "stop" a constitutional process any less serious? Not to me. Was the Bay of Pigs any less of an attempted overthrow of Cuba because we completely botched it to a nearly hilarious degree? "Ah, I wouldn't call that an attempted overthrow. I mean it wasn't really an army or anything, and they landed in the wrong place. LOL. Let's just call it a wayward military excursion. I'm more comfortable with that." In any case, we were probably just a shard of decency (or last-minute self-preservation) in McConnell and Pence away from a true crisis.
Hmm, I didn't call you names. Usually name calling implies you are already defensive. I was just asking a question. You are absolutely right, simply "voicing" your "displeasure" is not a coup. I don't disagree with you. I doubt anyone does. True. Don't disagree (you said this already by the way). True, breaking laws doesn't constitute a coup. Are you sure about that? If you want to compare to basketball, this would be the equivalent of basketball fans storming the hotel that the referees and commissioner were staying at and attempting to "talk to them" and also attempting to force them to overturn the final result because they are not satisfied with the result of the game. In this case, these terrorists were looking for Mike Pence to attempt to carry out Trump's wishes of overturning the election, which is consistent with your definition of a coup. Ultimately they stormed a building with high level government officials that were not armed to defend themselves and were attempting to intimidate them to fulfill Trump's wishes. Mr. Trump assisted by not calling the National Guard to come defend the roots of democracy. I get it though, what I am saying, it's just an idea to you. You somehow formulated and justified what happened yesterday as something totally different. I don't disagree with you that some of the individuals in that mob were just wanting to scream at people and voice their frustration, but considering that some individuals took pipe bombs and had handguns holstered to their waist (not legal in the Capitol) those particular individuals had bigger things in mind. Once again, could of easily be adverted if Trump would have just called in the National Guard immediately (which he never did, Pence had to do that).
Let's see, when they occupied the seat of the natoin's government and claimed it for their own in an attempt to install their fascist leader? WIth weapons and plans to take hostages and stage executiosn Yes that's literally the textbook definition of a coup according to people who study coups and how they are conducted in other countries, and how it's portrayed in the manual for white supremacist coups - the Turner diaries. C'mon, you are smarter than this, because you didn't think it would ultimately be successful does not make it not what it is. The fact that it seems ridiculous to you is how it gets this far. Klansman seem ridicluous in their white robes and pointy hats - until they lynch you and burn your house down.
