Visceral terror for your life is a pretty good motivator for a change in behavior and attitudes.

 

At this point does it matter if China ****ed up their SARS2 response a year ago or if they even engineered and deliberately released it to hurt the world? Japan has fewer total COVID deaths than we had yesterday. Yesterday.

China economic and political success is both intertwined and independent of the US economic and political success. The opposite is also true. Would I want to live under CCP rule? No. I want to live in a liberal democracy. But neither Trump nor Biden are going to be able to slow down China. That slow down will be from internal issues that will inevitably crop up.
Instead, our government can focus on the US at home and our global interests abroad. This is where decisions like how do we want to spend tax money become the differentiator. Biden wants to increase tax on highest bracket, have a better disciplined COVID response (and by God do we need it), update ACA, and have an actual infrastructure plan. These are decisions we can debate and weigh the pro and cons and decide who should best represent us.

But we are not an autocracy where one man runs the show. We are not a theocracy where one religion is held in higher regard to others. We are a liberal democracy, or liberal democratic republic if you want to be pedantic.

Objectively what is Trump even for? He is a cult of personality at this point and that personality itself is in stark contradiction to western liberalism.

Did China tell Trump to pretend that Covid was nothing more than a flu? Did China tell Trump to lie to Americans, and say it would disappear? Did China tell Trump to start a no mask stance? Did China tell Trump to fight against lockdowns? Did China tell Trump to defy social distancing guidelines and gather as many Maskless fools as he could at rallies around the country? Did China tell Trump to ignore experts, and spill doubt and propaganda about Covid? Did China tell Trump to encourage all his party to join in on the no mask stance of solidarity?

I could go on and on and on and on. Make no mistake, this spreading pandemic is on Trump. All these deaths are on Trump and the GOP for their reckless and dangerous refusal to do anything. Trump did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but stir up millions to do exactly the opposite of what they should have been doing to stop the spread. He made fun of Joe for doing the smart and responsible thing.
