It doesn't necessarily mean that. Caserio is well regarded. It's wrong to assume the search firm wouldn't recommend him just because we know that Easterby would.

Romeo has got to go as well. Injuries were a big problem this year but his defense lost way too many games the previous years.

Huge red flag in Jacksonville: Shad Khan dropping hints he went to the Snyder/Jones school of ownership...says he has "roster control".

Chargers seem like the best job opening. That team is close with plenty of talent.

Yeah, between the Chargers, and the Jags, with the Texans a close third.

The Chargers have what seems to be a good young qb, with good backs and good, but oft injured WRs. Have their picks. Not sure about cap.

The Jags have the number one pick and a can't miss QB prospect. They have cap. Loads of draft picks. Only problem is if the QB busts, it's on you.

The Texans have a top 5 qb in the league and not a ton else. Hard to find a job with a proven top 5 QB though. You fix the defense, and you're good for potentially longer than any other job. Especially with the patience ownership has historically showed. You do have short term issues with cap and draft capital, though.

Oh, to be Arthur Smith. 38 years old. Hot coaching prospect. May be a 39 year old NFL head coach.

Oh yeah, and your dad is a multi-billionaire that founded FedEx.

Brady might be a dark horse for this Texans HC opportunity.

Can't be more clear short of calling Easterby by name

Pat Fitzgerald is an excellent manager and organizer. I would actually interview him for both a head coaching gig and also a front office spot. He is probably too outside the box for the Texans coming off of BOB.

Fitz isn’t a genius as a play caller, he is brilliant at bringing in good coaches and building a strong culture and organization and has a strong philosophy. He is also an excellent person.

I don't know a lot about the Chargers - other than the elements you mentioned and they do sound good. The one thing I do know: their division runs through Pat Mahomes for the next decade. It wouldn't stop me from taking the job - but look how hard it was for teams to break through against Brady & Manning.

Being relegated to the wild card year-in and year-out is a tough way to win a championship.

While it sure looks like the Texans are not, for he 21st year in row, going to take any of my advice and hire a college coach.... I had David Shaw 1; Pat Fitzgerald 2 for the very things you mentioned.

I will say this about the Texans' search - it sure *feels* like they're doing their due diligence. They very obviously didn't lock in on a candidate and then go through the motions. Or, at least - they've convinced me they haven't. They're bringing in a lot of promising names; names nowhere near my radar (especially the GMs) and it's genuinely exciting...

These two hires feel like the most critical hires in team history because they have a ticking clock on Watson's window. They need to quickly assemble a competent team around him (with resources to grow) and a coach that maximize that talent. Not easy - but if they get it right.... it's going to be fun.

Imagine a competent front office and coaching structure, with Watson, going toe-to-toe with Mahomes, Allen and Jackson and what is shaping up to be an absolutely LOADED AFC - not just right now but for several years (Herbert, Burrow, Lawrence, Mayfield...) Man, I hope they nail it.

We need more than hope man. They have to absolutely nail these hires.
I’m honestly not sure which is more important with all things considered, GM or HC.
