I am adamantly against any more stimulus checks. When i say the economy has already stabilized i get these reactions like are you crazy.

The unemployment rate in April was driven by economic shut down. It drove unemployment to insane levels.

Now the economy is open. Unemployment has 14% at height to a high but normal 6.8%. Small businesses and restaurants can still use help but with a more protracted focus.
Yes infection rate is out of control but the economy is stable

Fully opening and going back to pre covid ways before the vaccine is widespread means absolutely destroying the health industry.

    That would be devastating.
All the lockdowns have been to make sure not overwhelm the health industry.

The economy is not wide open.. For the life of me I can't figure out why you keep saying that.

As for the checks, its a done deal... You can huff and puff all you want, the stimulus checks are already hitting people's bank accounts...

But feel free to keep whining...

I think this may be partially true in certain areas. You could have a myopic perspective though - many places (Seattle, LA, Vegas, etc) are much more restricted than Houston.

There's rolling lockdown or government measures to slow the spread of covid.
At this point it's race to get the vaccine out as fast as possible..

There's still 4 times as many jobless from pre pandemic period.

Add to that a lot of casual workers aren't getting the mins they used to get.

    Sports arenas are closed...

Flights are not back at full strength...

Restaurants are not at full strength ..

Gyms are not at full strength...

Colleges are not at full strength..

All things not at full strength, mean people still don't have work...

So things are not wide open..

Restaurants and bars aren't as crucial as hospitals or saving lives. If closing restaurants and bars helps from overwhelming hospitals with Covid patients then close them until most of us can finally get vaccinated, and this pandemic gets more under control. We have a serious problem right now. Ambulances waiting for hours to admit patients, hospitals getting overwhelmed, and we need to do more right now. Waiting until everyone gets vaccinated might take months.

It's this damn open up mentality that got us in this situation to begin with. Bars and restaurants are not essential businesses. They are huge hot beds for spreading Covid among a bunch of Maskless people. Any place where people take off masks to eat or drink is a business that should be closed. Movie theaters, coffee shops, cafes, or anywhere else people can eat or drink.

Off with the masks, means spreading the virus. They don't even make it known which ones had a Covid outbreak. I have a cousin who works in a restaurant and a night cook tested positive for Covid. I asked her if they do contract tracing of customers. She said no. This is a major chain too.

Remember when this outbreak started in March and they actually listed grocery stores etc on the news when an employee tested positive? When do you hear anything about bars and restaurants, or anywhere else any more? It's all kept quiet. People say my body my choice. The problem is when your choice spreads Covid and I have no choice if I am turned away at a hospital because they have no beds. Most ambulance services in Houston aren't covered by insurance companies. If you are sent home to deal with it and then get severe and need an ambulance good luck with the bills. (Especially if you wait a couple hours in an ambulance waiting to get admitted).

We need to do like Ireland is doing, but we won't. Our GOP leaders don't give a damn about the spread, or how many die. Money money money to them, not lives. On New Year’s Eve, Ireland entered a level-five lockdown, with non-essential shops closing, a 5km travel limit, restrictions on household gatherings and schools staying closed.

Ireland has gone from having the lowest infection rate in the European Union just two weeks ago to having the fastest rate of deterioration, after shops and large parts of the hospitality sector were allowed to reopen for most of December. (Connect the dots there!)

People confuse Republicans with fiscal responsibility but 4 yrs of Trump has added $4T to the budget deficit.
