Another death due to his own party's lack of leadership top to bottom in taking the COVID threat seriously

This newly elected Republican, who just turned 41, caught the virus and died within days. It’s tragic. Tragic for his family, his friends - who must be filled with grief, horrified and stunned at what happened.

The virus doesn’t care what political party you belong to. It doesn’t care how politicized it has now become. It doesn’t care if you think yourself “immortal” and believe that “it’s just like the flu.” COVID-19 is relentless. Over 3700 fellow citizens died from it today. That’s hundreds more than died on 9/11, and like 9/11, all in a day. Calling the pandemic a tragedy is an enormous understatement.

 

Seems unfair. This guy dies, but Louie Gohmert somehow survives Covid.

 

To be fair 41 is extremely old and seeing as this guy is from Louisiana he's probably been battered by several hurricanes and is likely full of alligator lard.

There's always the temptation to engage in schaudenfraude when stuff like this happens but it's still a tragedy. Whether his political beliefs and party didn't take this seriously and downplayed it doesn't change that that this is a huge painful loss to his colleagues constituents and family.

 

Many people are saying this is a hoax.

 

Seriously, that woman left with two kids that small breaks your heart. And I know... a lot of people end up as single parents anyway, but that transition will be so difficult. No time for her to really grieve and having to explain the change to kids that small must be nearly impossible.

 

Crazy how covid will kill you with a heart attack during an operation now ? I'm scared.

I wish it was schadenfreude. This guy bought into the death cult mythology by running around mask less during the campaign, urging early reopen, and left his small kids to pay the bill for the rest of their lives.

That's not schadenfreude. That's just a ****ing shame that he was reckless. Running around to parties mask less like Trump cult is basically drunk driving. Sure you might not die, in fact you probably won't, but it's reckless as **** because others will pay for you.

 

He died for Trump's economy! He and his family should be Proud and Hailed by the Furher Donald J. Trump!

 

I sincerely hope that some good would come out of this tragedy, and that the GOP and their supporters would realize that this is a deadly serious disease even for young healthy people and that we are nowhere near out of the woods with a significant portion of this country still pending vaccination. Maybe that realization will actually occur to a few now that wouldn't otherwise have been receptive. Sadly though, I suspect most on the right will continue to call it 'fake news' and move on to the next news story with their lives and routines unaltered. That is, after all, the easiest thing to do. Marginal change seems to be the best we can manage even with a pandemic raging.

Regardless of all that, my prayers are with his wife and kids, who along with hundreds of thousands of other American families will now be enduring lifelong pain and grieving that could have been easily avoided.
