I was reading a friend's post who is getting over COVID-19 say she has been suffering from dizziness and memory loss. Another one of her friends who had COVID a few months ago said that since then she frequently has dreams now that she wakes up screaming from. The neurolgical affects of COVID-19 are the least understood part of this disease and more reason to avoid getting this disease even if you aren't in a high risk group.
People who get vaccinated receive cards and are registered with the CDC. They're tracking who gets it.
So last Saturday I did something stupid and let someone borrow my mask at an open air restaurant when she had to go to the bathroom. On Tuesday she tested positive and on Wednesday I started feeling sick. Thursday was tested. STILL NO RESULTS So I’ve not gotten another test because I just assume it’s right around the corner and don’t really want the track down and pay for a rapid one since they are hard to come by. However I’ve been acting as though I am positive and being very cautious about contacting other people. Can anyone tell me if they think I have Covid and if I should be worried: Day 1-Wed- felt like allergies coming on. Kinda blah. Nightime fever started with chills and achy ness. Light cough. Weird metallic taste in mouth. Day 2- Thur- fever off and on and really really was out of it. I barely remember anything honestly. Felt like crap and easily worst day so far. Bad headache. Day 3- Fri - woke up feeling great. Just a little out of it but pretty functional. Towards end of day felt crummy again Day 4-Sat- couldnt get off the couch. Slept off and on all day. No energy but otherwise felt okay Day 5- Sun- felt more energy. Was able to get around and do stuff. Light cough. Stuffy a bit. Metallic taste. Felt blah Day 6- Mon- Feeling weird. Bad taste in mouth. Stuffy head, and really short of breathe. Coughing more. The thing is this feels like the flu with a bacterial infection afterwards (sinusy feeling) thus far but really getting concerned about what comes next if it is Covid. This is the problem with it being flu season and sinus infection season with allergies. It’s hard to tell early on and testing is complete garbage right now. Anyone have any advice on what I should watch out for? I hope this is the worst of it and I’m one of the lucky ones with a mild case. What has me concerned is with the cough coming on. UPDATE: yep... test came back positive
Damn.. Sorry to hear that. It sounds like you have a relatively mild case so hope you get over it soon. This is the problem with a highly contagious disease. You can do everything right most of the time yet still get it because we can't completely isolate ourselves and it's hard to keep up constantly with what is needed. This why this needs to be fought on a society wide basis.
Yeah I think people underrestimate the power of peer pressure with socializing, and the fear of family fights around the holidays. When i started getting symptoms on the 23rd, i can't tell you how many people where like "just drink some whiskey and plow through" etc. etc. and then there was the anger from family members about HOW DARE I upset plans etc. This is the real issue with Covid societal prevention. Our society is already baked in that it's not that serious, and it doesn't matter when you are literally coughing in their faces. People just will not take it seriously, and sacrifice their daily lifestyle activities.
Okay so interesting note: 2 Teledoc visits this AM to get two opinions: Teledoc 1: Concern is cough turning into pneumonia, but otherwise thought I was going to be fine. Didn't sound too concerned, but still sending prescription for a cough medicine, and an inhaler to help preventative measures with lungs. Teledoc 2: (my primary doc): before I could even see my Doc, he already sent over a prescription for a Z Pack and Hydroxyqloroquine. Was adamant that I start on that asap, and schedule an appointment for Thursday to see if I feel better. ..... Yeah.... so that's my experience thus far with Covid physician care thus far. I think folks will not be surprised at the treatment I'll be taking.
Where are you going? I don’t know what the latter is doing..that witch doctor cocktail was something way back from April everybody knew didn’t work. I’m a strong proponent of telehealth, gives patients and providers easier access. Parts of the physical exam needed to make the diagnosis are over-emphasized imo. Feel better.
I know. It’s the weirdest thing. Hydroxy isn’t even a thing anymore online when you search for it. I think that's red flag #1 that I need to switch primary care. My primary care is in a Trumper diehard city up here in DFW. Just goes to show you even Doctors are subject to propaganda. The Teledoc #1 seemed like she had a decent amount of experience and good advice. I'll just treat the cough and focus on that in trying to prevent the cough from metastasizing. Thanks.
It’s pretty rare to find someone like that but I guess there might one here and there. Some of these super old timers are really bad about continuing education etc, so may have opened journal back in April and hasn’t done anything since. Even then he’d have to be living under a rock though. I’m sure for other aspects of primary care he’s probably a pro and superstar in but that’s just very surprising to hear. That combo of meds (hydroxy/azithro) doesn’t come without side effects either.
I guess it doesn't hurt to bring a spare mask if you're going out all the time. I wouldn't have considered it before, but it's hard to refuse in that case. Well it came from China first, so we aint gonna give a **** whereelse it came from!
Keep 'em comin'. J&J's should/could be next : Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine approved by UK regulator
We are going to need a comparison chart. Caution should be taken for the Sputnik version V - unless you trust Russia. For Oxford: Oxford-AstraZeneca one showed 62% effectiveness - although even in cases where people were infected there were no cases of serious illness. Trials of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine also showed when people were given a half dose then a full dose effectiveness hit 90%. But there was not enough clear data to approve the half-dose, full-dose idea. However, unpublished data suggests that leaving a longer gap between the first and second doses increases the overall effectiveness of the jab.
You get the sense that AstraZeneca is hedging their effectiveness because they are assuming many mutations of the virus like the flu. Which is probably not a very warm feeling. A friend of mine just got it for the second time too. I think the only hope is if the new admin can come in on day one and mobilize the military to deploy the vaccine in mass almost overnight. What’s helping this virus with its staying power is time. There are probably already more than 2 active strains if not many more. By July (when the public can prob get it easyish) there could be dozens more and we are looking at situation of needing to get yearly vaccinations where they have to put like 4 strains in the vaccine which is just a guess of which strains you’ll come in contact with. Thats a recipe for life as we know it to never come back in any affective way for full economic recovery.
