Not really. His greatest problem was having owners who did not want to spend! No one works for free. If they are good at their jobs they expect to be paid. Morey did the best he could under the circumstances.
Also for those idiots calling Morey washed have no idea what they are talking about.

Right....That's why CW signed with the Sixers. Morey is another former Rockets GM. That's it. Don't credit fat Elvis for moves he could have never made while he was here. Bet Stone didn't give Woods a Ipad either.

The second I knew Morey was only paper smart was when he said tsla was the most obvious short ever like a year ago. My opinion of him went downhill after that.

I hear you but I've gripped about Morey is other threads, plenty of times. I not going to do that again. I'm over it. He is gone. We are better than Last year. Move forth.

He is washed. It's not that nobody wanted to spend. It's nobody wanted to play for geek Morey. Players not name Harden like Stone apparently.

"Not wanting to spend" is the dumbest narrative. Did they not try to go after Butler? If there is a target that will put the team over the top they were willing to spend. Was Morey able to secure a target like that? No owner in the league is spending $30m on luxury tax on Trevor Arizas of the world.

Warriors were a lock to win the title for years. Cleveland had Lebron.

No comparison here. Ariza was never going to put us over the top.

Yeah but that's the rational view of it, the kind of people who run with stupid "not wanting to spend" or "cheapskate" narratives are not capable of being rational when it comes to the subject for a host of reasons.

And what about this year? And there were many years in Lebron's time they were not a lock either and they STILL SPENT. When you are close you spend, period, end of story. I dont want to hear it.

Yes he very well could have or we could have used his salary for a trade. You guys simply do not get how close that Warriors series was. Im sick of this Tillman defending, come off it.

This year the Warriors look like morons spending a fortune on the luxury to possibly be a lottery team, handicapping their franchise for the future. When people are doing REALLY stupid things like that, there's always people to cheer them on.

Lebron has proven that he can win a championship. Harden has not, whether that's his fault or not, doesn't matter in that case.

This year, the owner of the warriors said that they spent because they want to appease the fans for their support during the glory days. This franchise can handle it after winning for years.

Lebron won a championship with the Heat. They spent in the tax every year he was there when he came back to the Cavs. And when KD went to the Warriors it was a guaranteed loss. AND THE OWNER STILL SPENT. Harden was super close and went to 7 against the GOAT team. That warrants you spending in the luxury tax. Stop caping for Tillman. When you have a talent like Harden you spend, period.

Looooooooool, is that supposed to make Tillman look better??? It does not. It makes him look worse.

Giving a washed Ariza a ridiculous deal would have done nothing but wasted money, it wouldn't have won even one more game for the Rockets and it would have made it harder for the team to get better after that.

Spending for the sake of spending is what stupid people do.

I don't give a damn about Tilman. I could care less whether or not he's losing or gaining money.

Harden has never proven to be a winner in the playoffs, atleast not against top competition in close situations. Lebron was always a lock to come out of the east. You spend money so you have a chance if the Warriors have bad luck with injurys. Which ultimately didn't happen for Cleveland, but happened for Toronto.

Calling Morey washed is actually a compliment, it implies that he was once great. That 65 win team was a great achievement and he deserves praise for it. But what moves did he make to build on that once he got so close? Carmelo? James Ennis? Mcw? 2018-19 offseason was a disaster which led to a disappointing season. Harden was asking to be traded and forced the teams hand in doing something drastic, trading for Westbrook.

When you go from trading for Lowry and Harden to counting on Carmelo, Mcw and Ennis as your savior, you are washed.

Sure Morey was targeting Wood but he wasn't able to close the deal. Stone was the one that pulled off the sign and trade. Maybe if we got Wood at the deadline instead of Covington Harden wouldn't be asking for a trade. Tate is looking like the best find the team has had in years. Signing Cousins was a bargain. Trading Westbrook for a now healthy looking John Wall with a first round pick was a work of art. If it was Morey pulling off this offseason we would be acting like he's walking on water.

But it wasn't Morey. Because he quit. Morey saw the ship sinking, and jumped. Stone turned a stinking ship into a submarine.

Washed or not at least we know two undeniable truths. Morey is a quitter. Morey is a terrible stock picker.

Morey once said that he owed it to James Harden to get him the help to win a championship. Then when the going got tough he quit. Stone came in and cleaned the mess.
