For those who don't know, the Texans also fined players including Watson for violating covid rules in relation to attending Watson's restaurant's grand opening.

Is it simply the money players make? Can the hospital place restrictions on doctors away from work? If you work in an office can your job?

The unions of each of these sports leagues agreed to it.

Its for the greater good (in the players + owners + league office perspective). If the leagues are forced to shut down because it becomes unrealistic to even attempt to have a season then everyone loses and there are greater ramifications and profit losses that will extend past the current season.

You missed the point. I understand the reasoning for the restrictions, i was wondering what gave the leagues the authority to enforce rules like who you can be around in your free time

I would love to be as unionized and well represented as NBA and NFL players. I don’t have a union helping me negotiate in my best interests, but I still could be fired damn near anything because I live in a right to (not) work state.

In Texas an employer could fire you for not wearing a mask in public outside of work if they wanted. You could sue of course claiming you were discriminated against and maybe you’d have a shot because you might get in front of a right wing judge but given that it’s a right to not work state, the employer has a pretty good case to say due to state laws of Texas, we have the ability to fire for public health disrespect that is damaging to our organization’s image.

Then go join a union ... or make yourself valuable enough to the point where you can represent yourself.
No need to derail the topic at hand.

    Merry Christmas!

It's a pretty established concept that employers can fire employees for private behavior that could affect their job performance.

Attending parties affects job performance? Drugs are illegal for instance. The league's covid rules are stricter than the mandates of cities and states

Yes. If you get infected at a party with a highly contagious disease that then keeps you off the field and potentially many others in your organization. That is negatively affecting job performance.

Well, if a player gets infected...then he can infect his teammates, coaches, and opponents. Then, you have to shutdown the league. It comes down to MONEY. The players are the PRODUCT and Employees. No games, No revenue.

You can get infected anywhere from anyone, that being said Harden was fined for being maskless, not necessarily being at the club so i guess my point about stricter rules than what has been suggested by health authorities is moot

Yes you can get infected a lot of places but that’s like saying I could get in a car accident any time I drive but it’s more likely I will have one if I drink and drive. It’s more likely you are to catch COVID-19 if you are in a crowded venue like a party, or strip club, and also maskless. In that case you are putting your work performance at more risk through your private behavior
