Thank you again, I'm going to check it out in a bit. I was hoping to order something and get it here before Xmas, but I think I've missed my window (and that might have saved me from doing something stupid).

Gotcha. I got a story to tell : I bought my current house back in 2004 and always wanted surround sound/home theater-like experience, so I told myself I would buy a sub that would hit. But my family room is something like 20x20 and it opens up into the kitchen, so I made the mistake of researching for audio equipment on AVSForum. There are guys on there that spend $100k+ on home theater equipment. I don't really want to even spend $1000. lol. So I researched and what I found out was "you need to make sure your center channel and your subs are the best". I ended up saying "whatever" but agreed about the sub and knew with that size of open space, I'd need a nice sub. I ended up getting an SVS 20-39PC. This thing is built like a tower in Mordor with a 12" downfiring sub and a 525-watt amp built-in. Because.... I didn't want to over-do it and get their bigger one. :|

So I hook that bad boy up to my Pioneer receiver (which I still like better than my more expensive Denon I currently have) and hooked them all up to some generic, but good-enough-for-me HomeTheaterDirect.com surround and center channel speakers. I figured I could replace those later if I wanted to upgrade (never did -- they were good enough). I look on the back of the sub I have since dubbed Decimator and cranked the gain up all the damn way looking for "11" in honor of Spinal Tap. I cranked up Lord of the Rings and at some point during that movie I knew I had made a mistake. I had the volume cranked and the base cranked and the windows were literally vibrating/rattling from the bass. I grabbed the remote to pause it. But ... hit play again and ran out onto my patio and heard the booming outside and easily heard the windows out there. At that point, I turned the gain down permanently. Well, except that one time I wanted to hear the low frequency hit when Sauron's ring falls and hits the ground. Somebody mentioned the movie U-571 - that used to be another nice low frequency test.

All this to say -- just buy whatever sounds good enough and don't go overboard or overthink it like I did. lol.

I looked up your sub: Shock and awe. That thing is incredible. My previous one that I mentioned was honestly the nicest piece of stereo equipment I've ever owned, and it can't hold a candle to it.

I can get carried away researching when the topic interests me (there's some OCD in me, maybe a lot). I've obsessed over trips I've yet to take, have houses picked out I can't afford, and all kinds of crazy ****. Lately I tend to laser focus on things and quickly lose interest when something "better" comes along. Right now it just happens to be listening to Tea for The Tillerman from my favorite recliner. Have I ever listened to the full album? No, but it's something I've got to do and do soon, lol.

UPDATE: I obsessed enough. I ordered the LG. If it sounds disappointing it can go back. I think it will be just fine though. Definitely better than the TV's built in speakers. I'll give it a workout and tell you all what I think.

Thank you all for your help and for sharing your knowledge.

Yup. I've been known to "research" something for months... my car for years... the more expensive it is, the longer I "research". I drove people crazy doing that : "just buy the damn thing already!" And yes, that speaker is something I do not regret. It's given me 15 years of thunder.

Hopefully the LG works out for you. Good luck!

    Thanks.

Lol, I sold my car weeks ago after weeks of lowball offers and headaches. I've yet to decide what to do next. Do I buy used? Do I wait another month and see what rebates might come out? I don't know, but I'm determined to "win" this time around and save money for things that make us happy, even if I go insane in the process.

Look for an inexpensive stereo receiver or amp with sony core or pioneer aj bookshelves, a pair of either for $70 right now.

Even the lowest tier, the above I've found better sounding than similarly priced soundbars. But if looks & low profile X sq is absolute priority, would be headphones.

Hey, bro. PM me . My dad owns a home theatre installation company, so he know everything about speakers. Or you can send me an e-mail at thomasmw752@gmail.com. He can help you out.

An interesting note about Pioneer speakers. While usually folks think Pioneer mostly makes mid-tier consumer audio (though their Elite line is quite good), they do make really nice sounding speakers that were at one point designed by Andrew Jones.

    Here's an example:

Andrew Jones is a famous designer... having designed popular speakers at Infinity, KEF, TAD, and ELAC.

This seems a really good price here -> https://www.newegg.com/pioneer-sp-b...vm9ZpEpd0GPRIs5vnxoCa0AQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#

^I actually like mine a lot, but understand they are good not great, reflected by the fact they are regularly on sale for $60 to $70 several times yearly, basically their actual price.

Thanks. I ordered a soundbar with a sub because I wanted to keep things clean and simple. I'm sure it will sound good and make TV and movies more enjoyable. My ultimate goal of listening to music through the TV probably didn't make that much sense, as I'm sure there are better & less expensive ways to stream music. Someday I'll do it right.

And to be honest, much of this stems from Mrs FrontRunner making me wear headphones for years around the house. My ears have had enough and are ready to live a little. :p

I'm looking to invest in a new soundbar.

Debating on these, or whatever other options sound better today for these price ranges.
