An actual projection or internet hype projection? Sure, but on the other hand having a star locked up on a max is appealing. Yes, you are locked into adding scorers and shooters around Simmons while trying to move John Wall, but you have a much higher ceiling. It's not impossible for Wall to have a decent season and we can use a lesser pick to move Wall next offseason to get better contracts and/or players. With Herro you are gambling he becomes an all star (simmons already is) and/or gambling you can pull off another Harden like trade by aggregating assets. I like a bird in the hand because it's worth more than two in the bush. Miami is perfect for leverage, but without Bam it's just underwhelming.
I don't want the deal either but Bam is not trade eligible this season. look at KZ last night look at Precious last night I want an offer that's good enough to accept so Morey has to actually offer something of value.
Yes, with Westbrook while Harden is hanging around past the three point line. Simmons ain't Westbrook ........ We don't have to play the way we've been playing the last several years..... If you haven't watched the Sixers past youtube clips then you wouldn't understand.
lol @ using college PPG against someone. you know they only play 40 minutes instead of 48 right? check out Vince carters ppg in college and see what he went on to do as a rookie. that's no indication at all of what a player will be.
Its one thing to say the Heat package is so-so. Cause, objectively, it is. Nevermind the fact hat they really can't trade FRP anytime soon given the Stepian rule. But to say Iggy is the best player in that package is insane. Or that 2 years into his career Duncan Robinson has peaked makes no sense. Iggy's back half of his career is as overvalued as any player ive ever seen. He somehow snuck into a Finals MVP (insane... for some reason media just didn't want to give Steph the award.. he had one "bad" game but even then his gravity is what made Iggy have good games offensively that Finals anyway) and otherwise on any team not named the Warriors is kind of a forgotten player for the last few years. He got PT in the playoffs and Finals for Miami as a veteran presence, but wasn't exactly "good", except for one game. That aside... Yes, the package is kind of meh. But see Simmons vs. Herro thread for why a Simmons package is equally "meh" if not worse. Simmons is flawed as an all star in a way that is almost as bad a liability as there is in the modern nba.
That's why I like 2025/2027 picks and 2024/2026 swaps from Miami. That's mid to late 30's for both Harden and Butler. They'd still have Bam in his prime and of course could rebuild on the fly but if they miss, a pick package like that could turn out to be a treasure trove.
So did Kobe, Dream and even Pippen. It's a choice you can make as an organization to wait and see how the team performs and talk to the player over time. All three were even more disgruntled and won championships after riding it out.
Winning with Simmons as the best player would be hard, but you wouldn't build around Simmons for the bolded. He's a playmaker not a scorer.
This is not what I’m arguing for. Of course Houston holds on to him until the best value surfaces or he changes his mind.
Houston: Tyler Hero, Kendrick Nunn, Aaron Gordon, two Miami 1sts, 1 Orlando 1st Orlando: Duncan Robinson, PJ Tucker Miami: James Harden
I can understand your point of view, imo the best value will be there even with time, don't let the posturing or agenda media leaks fool you or pressure the fan bases into rushing into a trade before the season. Let the team gel during the season and ride it out, only make a trade if it makes the team better. Harden was arguably as good or better than these guys in his last preseason game in limited minutes. We have a three year contact, two years guaranteed and won't get a better player in a trade. Give it time and work it out, if the team performs well go from there. If not, go from there as well. But stay strong, calm and don't panic under external pressure. Don't sweat it and do what's best for your team and fanbase always.
according to that chart james harden is the most valuable player in the NBA according to monetary value
I don't know. That's pretty much what the Rocks gave up to get Harden. Sort of a symmetry to getting that back.
Its about scenario its not just simple ppg or stats. Harden scenario and herro is quite different. I don't have a mirror ball that can predict what herro is going to become, but doing a trade where your center piece acquisition chance of becoming a dud is too risky for my liking. Its already a turn off that herro probably won't even b a first option for us. Can he shot create? Or does he need to be fed it. Can he even defend with his short height and wing span? Sooooo many missing variables. At least with Simmons u know what u are gonna get.
I respect all opinions like such, because we have a different perspective. You can say having a non-shooting Ben Simmons locked in at 30+m per year for the next four in the Rockets system is a gamble (you know what you are getting, but it may NOT work), or you can say having a minimum guy as your center piece in a Harden trade is a gamble (one-off playoff story doesn’t extrapolate). Either one can be wrong, and either one can be right. At least in the latter case, well, he’s on a rookie contract, you don’t pay a rebuilding cost if he goes bust; the cost him going bust is acceptable. Again I still think Simmons is a superior option. But I can live with the Miami route, if the remaining package is right.
