Not sure why this is even in the hangout, but your numbers are factually wrong. I can do this for months. Actually, I already have. This virus isn't a crisis; in fact, now that we've received all the extensive new cases? Death is on par with flu. Far more contagious, but are you worried about dying if you have the flu? Only if you're unhealthy or really old...
it’s political (limited resources) and you are damn right it’s not hard then you read this and wonder maybe it’s hard (it’s not) Indonesia plans to vaccinate its young working-age population against the coronavirus before the elderly, in contrast to much of the world that’s planning on putting its vulnerable older people first in line. Southeast Asia’s first country to receive delivery of Covid-19 vaccines will focus on inoculating those between 18 to 59 years of age, starting with those working on the front lines of the pandemic such as health workers, the police, and the military. “Our aim is herd immunity,” said Amin Soebandrio, director at the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology in Jakarta. “With the most active and exposed group of population -- those 18 to 59 -- vaccinated, then they form a fortress to protect the other groups. It’s less effective when we use our limited number of vaccines on the elderly when they’re less exposed.”
Fatty I’ve let my personal positions be known on covid clearly. I’m still out doing jiujitsu and stuff but man can you stop with your flu comparisons. It isn’t the flu and the death rate isn’t on par with the flu even if you want to lie to yourself and act like it is. It isn’t the plague but it’s significantly more dangerous than the flu. Especially for people in your demographic...you look 50+, male, carrying extra weight, and an excessive drinker. The positives you have going is you are white and not morbidly obese. Also Fatty I don’t think you are a bad guy or anything and you would probably be fun to hang out with but the bro science opinion about covid is just dead wrong.
I've already disproven you on this and I left you with nothing to say. Stop asking what I do for living. Who knows what you would do with that information
I received the first dose of the Pfizer Covid vaccine. The shot was painless and I only had a mild sore shoulder at the injection site the next day that is already better. I am not immune yet, but when I am I am going to see my parents without any guilt or worry.
In the 2018-2019 flu season, the flu death rate in the USA was around .001 - roughly 35,000,000 cases around 34,500 deaths. COVID death rate in the USA is .018 or so. I think your math skills can even figure out that's 18x more lethal.
I said in a post a couple of weeks ago that I thought the roll out of this vaccine could be one big cluster. Many people wanting to get to the front of the line all at once. The UK has a plan that is fair and simple for everyone to understand. They are basically going by age group. It’s easy to verify someone’s age, and most people agree it’s the elderly who are most at risk. I have no problem with doctors and nurses getting the vaccine first. They are coming in contact with infected people. But, after healthcare workers are vaccinated, just go from oldest to youngest. It’s easy to understand and I think most people would agree it’s a plan that makes sense.
In my 41 years of life on this planet, I've never personally known a person that died from the flu. I've known plenty of people that have died from a multitude of things. Cancer, car accidents, stroke, emphysema...but never the flu. From March until August I knew maybe 3 people that even tested positive for COVID, and none that died. Since then, I now know 7 people that have died from COVID and 1 that recovered from the ventilator, but who is still in a rehab hospital 2 months later and may never fully recover. So in 41 years: 0 flu deaths from anyone I know. In 4 months: 7 COVID deaths. 2 were in very healthy, no underlying condition middle aged adults.
Very sorry to hear that. I've been fortunate to not know anyone directly who died from COVID-19 but I know several who have had it. Nearly all of them have said it's much worse than the flu. A friend in her 30's who had been a Judo national champion got it two weeks ago. When she posted about it one of the first things she said was "This is much worse than the flu.." She's still dealing with symptoms and just got her sense of taste back a couple of days ago.
Odd that it was painless, it shouldn't have been. That has to remain super cold all the way up to when it's injected so it should have been at the very least uncomfortable.
If you want to reach herd immunity (estimated at least 70% vaccinated) then going age by age is the hardest. The easiest is to vaccinate big percentages of the population where they are all clustered together. Schoolchildren, colleges and universities. The army, police and civil servants. Retirement homes and prisons. Already you have vaccinated like 30-40%+ of the population with just all these. It's harder to reach on a mass scale over 65s that many of them are retired.
Here is the price list of the vaccines This is the list of what the EU is paying: Oxford/AstraZeneca: €1.78 Johnson & Johnson: $8.50 Sanofi/GSK: €7.56. Pfizer/BioNTech: €12. CureVac: €10. Moderna: $18. For the USA : Oxford/Astrazeneca : 4$ Moderna : 15$ https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...identally-tweets-eus-covid-vaccine-price-list
Yeah but it's weird to first target those who would potentially have a greater risk of health problems from unforeseen side effects of a rushed vaccine than from COVID itself. In fact, in my line of work we have the first priority if we want to get the vaccine....which makes sense because we're the one's giving it out, but you might be surprised how few are doing so for just that reason. That's why you target the elderly and those in direct contact with the elderly first. Those are the people that have a serious risk of death from COVID, not schoolchildren. If we find out one day that the rushed vaccines had bad side effects, it won't really matter to them, they'll probably be dead by then anyway You take care of those most at risk first, then start to go after everyone else.
Yes. For some country like Indonesia which was cited above or countries like India, african countries etc it still makes more sense to start with the younger because their over 65s is very small minority. I don't remember the % out of hand but I think it is less than 10%. Their population as a whole is extremely young. For europe, usa, canada, china and russia it makes more sense to reach a compromise between reaching herd immunity the most efficient way while also giving priority to the absolute risky populations. I am sure when there are enough vaccines, maybe next october or next january there will be mass vaccinations of school children here too. For now there aren't enough doses. We still have to wait for Johnson Curevac and Sanofi's vaccines to finish their trials too. If one or more of those proves ineffective or dangerous it will be a huge drawback in our mass vaccinations efforts.
From FDA: Vials After Dilution • After dilution, store vials between 2°C to 25°C (35°F to 77°F) and use within 6 hours from the time of dilution. • During storage, minimize exposure to room light, and avoid exposure to direct sunlight and ultraviolet light. • Any vaccine remaining in vials must be discarded after 6 hours. • Do not refreeze. It was probably room temperature when I got it.
Ah, that's interesting. I'm pretty sure most aren't thawing them completely, at least we were told not to.
Experts urgently seek clarity on new strain of the virus According to Whitty, the new variant is responsible for 60% of infections in London, which have nearly doubled in the last week. Earlier, he said "urgent work" is underway to establish whether the new strain, prevalent in the southeast of England, can cause a higher mortality rate. "There is no current evidence to suggest the new strain causes a higher mortality rate or that it affects vaccines and treatments although urgent work is underway to confirm this," Whitty said in a statement. "The spread is being driven by the new variant of the virus," Johnson said in a hastily called press conference. "It appears to spread more easily and may be up to 70% more transmissable than the earlier strain." England's chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty, warned Saturday that a newly identified variant of Covid-19 "can spread more quickly" than previous strains of the virus. "This is now spreading very fast," Johnson warned. "It is with a very heavy heart that I say we cannot continue with Christmas as planned." https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/12/19/uk/christmas-covid-strain-restrictions-intl-gbr/index.html
