Sure, if we go into next season with the exact same defensive depth chart, the same DC, the same HC, and the same schemes, it will look much the same.

It absolutely was the case a couple years ago, he’s 9th in the league at 7.6 ypa this year. Has been throwing the ball down field very well.

On that topic, in general Quarterback play has been outstanding. There are 10-15 QBs that are viable starters in any era (or putting up numbers that would say that).
This era in inflating a lot of player stats.

I know it's not as bad now, and I definitely don't watch every snap of his, but a lot of the long catches he throws I see guys like Darren Waller catching an 8 yard out and turning upfield for another 35. I mean, if it works, it works. I'd be interested to see advanced stats on how far his passes actually travel, etc.

To bring it full circle, I don't hate Derek Carr. I think he's solid. Can you win a SB with him? Idk... But he's not trash. I just use him as the example to clown on raining threes.

Quarterback play has been pretty wild all around.

    Agree with this so much.

The 2010 Texans D was almost as awful. Tebow threw for 300 yards, Cushing and Ninja were battlefighting each other. It was that dysfunctional.

The flip Chip and Joanna style:
You have "the sure thing" players on defense. It would be four with B-Mac but he's such an odd fit so I'm going with three.
    Watt
    Reid
    Roby

Then you have players that can take a huge leap with more snaps or improvement in their technique cough Cunningham's hug tackle cough :
    Charles
    Martin
    Cunningham

-------------------------------- Now you need 5 more to field it out.
1 your FA acquisition, cornerback. You can manipulate the cap to get a good FA

1 your out of nowhere performer in Adams.

There are 2 more players on the roster that we have know clue if they can play because the staff is hard headed.
    Blacklock
    Greenard

    The what if players:
PJ Hall. It's important that Blacklock/PJ hall or Unknown can do what DJ reader did for the line.

Lonnie Johnson, He transitioned to safety at the start of the season and is giving opposing qbs the rating of a 92.1 which on this team is close to shut down but that's basically because he hasn't allowed a TD. Last season he allowed 4Tds. If he can take to the position it would b a huge relief. In comparison murray has given up 5 Tds with 3 games left and a rating of 135. Addition by subtraction with Murray and as much as it pains me saying it.. Mercilus.

You add your new Defensive coordinator/ coaching and that's how it can been a flip from horrendous defense to a 14th ranked! You're not going to turn to the Redskins until 2022 with a first round and 2nd round pick. Redskins went from 27th to 4th overnight on defense

8 yds in the air is pretty damn good though, specially to a TE.
I don’t know who you can win a ring with outside of those that have won one already either. With the level of play from QBs all around, the rest of the team is more important than ever.

Sure, but that 8 yard throw goes down as 45 yards. That inflates the numbers on all the 2 yard throws.

Yeah but that applies to every Qb. Watson isn’t throwing downfield every throw either.
Just saying he’s not dink and dunk anymore

There are readily available stats that clarify those situations. Average depth of target and air yards are stuff I've started hearing about since at least last year in fantasy talks. ADoT for Waller is 6yds and Kelce is 8yds.
Derek Carr probably still has that reputation as a dump off guy, because he got totally shut down by the Pats when they decided to double the short route guys.

It obviously wouldn't hurt the offense to have slippery guys that can turn dump offs into big gains. Seeing Cooks turn a 3 yard dump off into a TD was one of the more exciting plays to me this year.

Oh the Texans hiring a Schottenheimer would be such a Texans move.... maybe they can bring back Charley Casserly and Dom Capers.

Right. Per far too many fans: they are never as good as their winning record but are always *worse* than their losing record. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Since firing BOB, they're 4-5. The idea that an improved coaching staff, alone, could lead to 8-10 wins next year is not far-fetched.

Unfortunately I bet Cal is impressed that he had HC interviews 10 years ago.

Y’all act like you don’t know who our coach will be.

    It’s quite obvious.

    Eric B from KC

Deshaun’s QB coach has endorsed him for Deshaun and he has the easiest interview of all time.

“Deshaun is every bit as good as Patrick Mahomes, so let me show you”

    Easiest interview of all time.

Why robert saleh is not the answer. He runs a very basic, vanilla scheme on defense. He has four first rounders on the defensive line. He relies on the talent on defense to make plays.

And 2 of them were lost for the season in week 2. Yet they are still one of the best defenses in the league. Losing Bosa/Thomas like they did is like losing Tunsil/Howard or Watt and whoever our 2nd best defender is. If you’re still fielding a top 10 unit, that is one hell of a coaching job.

Honestly it has nothing to do with Eric B, Saleh, etc...the ultimate wildcard is and will be Cal McNair.

This sort of stems from the weakness of their division historically. If you're getting your ass kicked in the South then you're worse than you look and if you're beating everyone's ass in the South you're still worse than you look. I don't necessarily agree with it year to year because teams can vary drastically in the NFL but I understand it.

We obviously got fooled the last turnaround, because the 2013 team did not have the talent of a 2 win team, and BOB coached an average offense off the back of a 1200 yard season in Foster's last hurrah and Fitzpatrick in a game manager role. What we didn't know was that he was full of **** about a game plan offense, being a qb whisperer, and developing an identity on offense for 6 years.

So that being said, I don't care about the wins next year, what's most important to me is that I see a coach or OC who actually has a vision of what he wants the offense to look like, and is able to adjust it in a way that it fits with Watson. It sucks that it could mean 2 years (20-21) of Watson at this level of pay is wasted, but the alternative scenario would be what I see when I look at Harden's early career and how he was wasted for a couple of seasons under McHale who was just letting JH run around playing isoball.
