The role wouldn't be the guy who proposed trades and did negotiations, the role would be the guy who made sure everyone in the organization is in sync and cohesive. He's perfect for the role. I was a bit concerned about him coaching again because of the endless stress. This would be more of a figurehead role.
At the end of the day, she's a mom and I get it. I really think James should get an actual agent rather than relying on a business partner and his mother to run his operations. This whole scenario has been a nightmare that could easily be cleaned up by an agent.

Since Jeff Van Gundy has entered the media business, he has become just about as sophisticated a speaker and effective a communicator as there is. Everyone hears what they want to hear from his comments and everything he says is prefaced on something that can inevitably change which gives him an out. He also has turned the positive up 100%. You can count on JVG speaking highly of coaches under any circumstances and usually players too. The Rockets have almost NO actual basketball player or coach influence in decision making processes and that is a mistake. Jeff fills so many of the needs that the Rockets have at the management level........ he has legitimacy around the league, he has relationships and knowledge of so many people around the league, he has coached at so many levels and can quickly identify a players talent and effort level, he has no issues speaking to the press and as a former coach he knows when something isn't right culturally. Yes, he would likely cost Tilman 7-8 million dollars a year, but he is well worth it to be in charge of the Rockets basketball operations........ Stone can remain the GM and deal with a lot of the day to day issues. JVG on basketball decisions can be another name in the room..... and Jeff can actually build the culture and he has a relationship with Tilman and will tell him when he is wrong about something.
What the Rockets sorely need is leadership. Not star players, not great X and O coaching, not even smart GM wheeling and dealing. All those things of course are needed to win. But without good leadership, everything else is either wasted or extremely fragile at best. We have seen it in the past 8 years or so, since the McHale-Harden days. We have been a very good team because of Harden's talent. But there's probably only one year that we can say the team had great chemistry.
Seems like Harden can do no wrong crowd is missing the point....again. Yes superstars or even stars get preferential treatment but how far the organization or the star player is willing to take it (in winning situations) is usually not as far as the Rockets enabled James to take it. Especially for a player that hasn’t won a ring or even led a team to the finals. James let everyone know his mindset when he said “me and Dwight are the stars and everyone else is just a role player” or something to that effect. Some things just don’t need to be said, and especially not to the media. And if he’s arrogant enough to say that publicly how do you think he acted behind the scenes? Think back to some of the stories all the way back to him not eating with other teammates. Doesn’t like McHale getting on him...he gone...cp3 getting on him...he gone....Westbrook...observed the culture and asked out. Clutch himself said James would ask for things to be done in the off-season “or else trade me”. He’s done some great things on the court but a not nearly enough to do what these reports are saying. I hope a good trade package comes fast so they can get his ass outta here.
I don't really think avoidance and aloofness and barely saying hello to a new rookie headcoach qualifies as 'courteous' and 'not hesitated'... If Harden cared about the team he would've been locked in with the coach from day 1 giving advice and helping him feel wanted and understanding the lay of the land.
Harden has been here for almost 10 years, now he thinks he can't win here with the managment and players we have, right or wrong it is what it is, people also get tired about things and want change.
I hadn't considered him in a non-coaching role, but you make a good case. Why is it that the Rockets don't have a "President of Basketball Operations" role like other teams?
Well the GM did everything possible to get out of his contract to not work for the owner of the Rockets. The HC of the team sent out a press release saying he had zero interest in working for the owner of the Rockets. The Rockets top assistant GM got the hell out of town to be the GM of the Kings. Why do you think James Harden wants out? How would you feel if almost every person you trusted and respected left because of ownership? Would you have confidence?
The same way the team made the franchise icon 'wanted' when they were searching for GM and coach candidates or are generational star players/face of the franchise guys not supposed to be allowed some input? Not all the EXTRA being late, taking days off, pet peeves. These moves were going to shape the franchise and the team didnt even think to include James? But on the flip side James is just supposed to chase after them like a puppy as if THEY are going to be the reason for the success of this team? SMH. You're taking liberties with how you choose to remember and then dispense the comments Harden has made about Silas. Team Success?? Harden > Silas. That is pretty evident right? Professional courtesy is all a first time coach needs from a GOAT.
