People aren't grasping the fact that not only is the primary player in a Simmons swap better, the ancillary pieces are better too. Maxey and Thybulle are better contracts and players than Robinson or Nunn (both are going to get paid next offseason). Wall/Maxey / Brown Gordon/McLEMore / Green Thybulle/House/Nwaba Simmons/Tate/ Wood / Cousins / Bruno That's 14 playable NBA players with KJ Martin available too. The 76ers would also have to send one more pick at least and none of the players are up for contracts any time soon. The Heat also cannot provide salary assistance because their players contracts are awkward. Ben Simmons being the highest paid player in a deal is actually a benefit. While Herro is a cheap asset, you have to take on more bodies to make salary work (Olynk and Iggy, who will never play in Houston) and you don't even get to lose PJ's salary. A 76ers trade requires the Rockets to waive no one, where the Heat trade would definitely require at least a player or two to be waived. The 76ers being good hurts the Miami Heat pick (which the Rockets will be stuck with because of the OKC swap). A deal with the 76ers is happening or a deal isn't going to happen until next offseason.

As a standalone asset, yes, he's better than Herro, but we all know that we aren't talking about standalone assets. Don't underestimate the magnitude of Simmons' shooting weakness. In the playoffs, teams will simply dare him to shoot. What happens then?

Another way to phrase that is "Boston has faced Simmons one time in the playoffs." Also, it was during Simmons' rookie year.
The more time passes, the more I start to back track and lean towards Herro. Simply because of fit. Simmons still has a much higher ceiling (debatable if he’ll actually reach it). But it Would be nice to finally have a team whose playstyles mesh. The Harden leaks leave me desiring a more cohesive team on and off the court.
