And derozan went farther as a 22 & 23 yr old? Are we forgetting the raptors traded away derozan (the same face of the franchise btw) to get off his deal and get over the hump because he couldn’t do that himself and when they did they win it all?

btw if your basis for whose a better individual player is whose team goes farther- your just digging yourself a deeper hole of nonsense. Saying Simmons is a number 3 behind embiid (top 10 guy) and butler (top 10 guy) isn’t a knock on him......at all. What a revisionist history about DD who was notorious for his teams failure in the post season.

Mortgaging the future is trading James harden for a lesser player and relying on hope because he “costs less”. Not only mortgaging the future but a ridiculous gamble for a franchise already losing its mvp historic player. I’m not disregarding cap space I’m saying that there are other ways to avoid the tax and shed salary.

the minute harden walks out the door (and he is ) your championship aspirations go with him. Your already not competing for a ring. The hardest thing to do in the nba is to draft and or sign or trade for a superstar- u get a legit franchise player back for harden and a building block. If you get herro back and he under performs and John wall sucks combined with a cheap owner (your words) whose coming to your team with all your cap space?

Simmons and wall is an odd fit, yes but for one season with an offensive minded coach and John wall given free reign and in an uptempo offense with him and Simmons would be, he can most def build his value back and get u a return. A monumental return? No but you could break his salary into 2-3 players or even expirings.

if your trading James harden u need to get as close to a sure fire return and then worry about cap flexibility which can always be manufactured. You don’t say “oh no I’ll take the lesser play because of salary” that’s terrible.

lmao u just said it yourself just like what i said. the minute harden walks out the door all championship aspirations go out with him. so then why get simmons and pretend to contend when you're at best the 7th or 8th best team in the west? do u still not get it?

and if you're really thinking about repairing john wall's value to trade him, why would u pair him with a guy who needs the ball just as much as him and doesn't fit at all and will only crowd all the space for john wall to work with? john wall playing with herro would actually boost wall's numbers more...

common sense sure is lacking these days

Because you get a 24 year old stud locked in for multiple years back and can build around him. Just because your title aspirations go out the window doesn’t mean you have to go through a full scale rebuild and or take back a worse deal. That’s asinine. You maximize your return on harden and then work out the roster and cap after.

the bottom line is wall is on your team now so you can either sabotage your return for a lesser player who costs less or get a much better package and get creative, run line up with Ben at the 4 or 5 and harden running the point. Let wall switch to 2 or act as a secondary ball handler. Simmons can score off turnovers and is great in transition.

you don’t say “we have John wall now Simmons is a bad fit so let’s compound walls terrible contract by taking a lesser play for less money” that’s just paralysis through analysis and over analyzing. Simmons is young enough and under contract enough to have a down year or 2 and then retool on the fly. There’s conflicting reports on whether or not tillman even wants to rebuild or contend.

it’s starts with a harden return tho- and u get the best returning asset. Period. It’s just ridiculous to take a worse deal to fit a 30 yr old stop gap player or for financial reasons. that’s the end of the back and forth. We can agree to disagree and I promise u if both deals are available I’ll come back and do victory laps when u get Simmons.

u still don't get it. with simmons as your franchise cornerstone, you're ceiling as a team is fringe playoff at best. and no, just bc simmons has allstar accolades doesn't mean he's the better deal. for the millionth time, salaries matter and timelines matter. with simmons, the rockets are stuck with a core of simmons, wall, and gordon for the foreseeable future with no avenue to improve. and when simmons tenure in houston is over, the rockets are left with nothing.

i'd much rather take a chance on herro, who is only ****ing 20 yrs old and has shown a ton of potential, on top of a chance to reset my books to either a) get a chance to sign a max player that the front office knows can help win a championship, or b) eat bad contracts with first rd picks attached so the team can get a chance to draft or trade for players that they want and believe can help win a championship. it's basically an admission that i know for a fact that simmons isn't gonna lead this team to a championship and i'd rather place my bets on herro, and if herro doesn't turn into a no.1/2 option, then i still have multiple ways to get a star that can help the team win a championship.

stick to the celtics. u guys have enough things to worry about as well.

you’re lost man. Really just over thinking this. Wall isn’t a core- he’s a stop gap who u have at worst for 2 years bc then he’s an expiring deal and absolutely moveable and you’d be able to move him before then. Simmons is the better deal it’s not even close- u don’t turn down a player like Simmons to “reset your books” for a CHANCE to end up signing a player like Simmons.

he’s 24 years old- he can fit a win now timeline or a rebuild timeline because he’s under contract and young and still has upside. Lol. Your literally getting a star back yet u wanna take option b to position yourself with cap space to “maybe get a star” completely disregarding the fact u say u have a cheap owner and would be rebuilding....what’s the selling point and allure for a free agent? Riiiiight.

lastly, the Celtics have a 22 year old who you’d absolutely wish would be available for harden and a 23 yr old who would still be a better return than herro. We good.

Morey: ok we will give u Simmons and 2 firsts enough playing games

stone : Daryl actually, we are concerned with simmon’s fit with our 30 year old stop gap point guard. We pass.

Morey: u sure...he’s 24 under contract for several years and 1 of the best assets in the league under 25.

stone : yea u know again, clutchdabear pointed out to us that for salary cap reasons we should take a lesser deal for the opportunity in 4 years to maybe sign a player as good as Simmons in free agency- I mean Simmons may never be good enough to win a ring so we have to take a worse deal.

Embiid and butler are neither top 10 players. And this post doesn’t say anything that refutes what I said. If DD is notorious for teams failure what’s simmmons cause he hasn’t been better in the regular season or playoffs. Again you have said nothing to say that isn’t true.

Stick to Boston. You have no business being around here with your horrendous start on cf’s

oh man.... you're calling me lost, when you think john wall as a 49M expiring asset is moveable??? what team is gonna want to take on 49M in salary while giving out the same unless rockets take back a shitty contract again? and if not, do u really think there can be an aggregate salary of 49M with players who are actually decent without an albatross contract? absolutely clueless.

what's the selling point and allure for a free agent? why would that even matter if the rockets can get enough assets to trade for one? and if silas turns out to be a good coach (which i'm sure he will be), and herro becomes a good building block (good probability), why wouldn't a good free agent want to come here to play while getting a max contract?

and no, getting a CHANCE to have a player like simmons is nothing special. he's a good player, sure. but a special, generational talent? hell no. the guy can't shoot and refuses to shoot outside of the key.

enjoy eating that kemba walker albatross.

    Bring it.

Your mental capacity requires dialogue the equivalent of shock therapy otherwise your inbred ass lacks the neural capacity to connect complex data sets.

People posting in here know Simmons was injured and didn't play in the postseason, right?

His playoff performances prior to that have been very strong. 62% from the field his 2nd playoffs.

How many legitimate 6'8 and taller 2-way point guards are there in the league?
    LeBron, Simmons, and... ?

Yeah, Simmons isn't a shooter. But if he was he would be LBJ.

If Seth curry could dribble and be a playmaker consistently he’d be Steph curry. Cool

    You are thinking linearly.

There is not only one way to amass a team capable of contending.

The Simmons trade would include picks, some of those picks have to hit because you are correct Simmons by himself is not enough.

And finally Wall's contract has to be shed so more complementary players can be signed to fit the huge cap space.

All these rebuttals for Simmons are based more on personal aesthetics, more weight is given to this factor than proven accomplishment.

In either case the point is moot because Harden is a Rocket, hopefully he will remain so for another entire season.

If not, it more likely than not that Rockets will chose to trade Harden for Simmons trade package.

Once Simmons is offered, if offered, this deal is the most universally regarded in NBA circles as the best trade for Rockets.
