Biden was the only candidate that did beat Trump, as much as I hate to admit it it's a lot closer with almost anyone else, save Dwayne Johnson.

Listen Elizabeth Warren is a billion times better suited to govern t han Biden. Her policy views not only align with mine, they're just ****ing better. I voted for her in the primary.

But she would have been bogged down answering ridiculous bullshit pocahontas questions because that's the bullshit system we have. Also, letting Trump run against a woman....works out badly. Unfair, grotesque, but true based on a sample size of 2

Yes Biden should not be afraid of being labeled too radical by Grand Old Autocracy party. But, what you're implying here is that he's too moderate to win votes. That part is just wrong.

Many very fine people....on both sides.

GTFO with this argument. One side has gone beyond the pale, which is why guys like Bill Kristol for gods sake support Democrats now.

I agree that moderate Dems need to find their own messaging with the healthcare/new deal/climate change instead of taking an ambiguous position. If the "corporate dems" really wanted to make the insurance groups happy then they'd be doing it differently instead of having conservatives try and kneecap ACA because it is subsidized through the wealthy.

I was originally a Warren supporter but she tried way too hard to focus on cultural/social issues instead of using her strengths on economic issues.

Unfortunately it's human psychology. It's "socialism" when you are investing in the country, but it's something entirely different when you are investing against a perceived enemy.

I for one think the Biden moderate way isn’t sustainable and could lead to another Trump but I did at the time and still do think he was necessary to get Trump out of office.

Had Bernie won, I think the coup situation would be much different in a much more scary way. I don’t know if Georgia and AZ are still wins either making the EC vote much more vulnerable.

But yeah I think “moderation” is a disaster in the making at this moment. It’s asking for McConnell and the Repugs to game the system and take you for a fool. Voters reward being bold and standing up for what you believe in.

I’d like to see Bernie folks though push on Biden but give the guy a chance. Keep in mind that when FDR came into office he was the wealthiest person ever to come into power but he was a man who met the moment and has been rewarded throughout history. I don’t think Biden will be the next FDR but he does deserve a chance from the left even though yes he needs to be pushed.

    Just my 2 cents fwiw.

So, I essentially give me your theory of why "Trumpism" ,which includes more than
The Donald himself, has come about and how some moderate tweaks will crush it, which I assume many on this forum would like.

Well we could start a war. But where? It usually unites the country, but China is out of the question.

    https://historyhub.history.gov/thread/8516Greetings from the Truman Library,
In President Harry's Truman's remarks in Syracuse, New York on October 10, 1952, he said this:

Socialism is a scare word they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years.
Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security.
Socialism is what they called farm price supports.
Socialism is what they called bank deposit insurance.
Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.
Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people

Listen to some of the speeches not pubicized much by JFK. On national health and welfare and poverty he sounds like Bernie, not Obama or Biden and not the Clintons the originators of the Dems move to the right that lost control of Congress that the FDR Dems had for about 40 years.

Beating Trump was necessary and why I tried to be as supportive as I could of old Joe (Biden bumper sticker along w. Bernie 2016 and Bernie 2020) ayard sign, still up as long as neighbor across the street keeps up her Trump flag on her flag pole) It took some discipline as good old Joe devoted his career to supporting stupid wars, tax cuts, obsession with the resulting budget imbalances , so he proposed cutting Soc Sec COLA's, mass encarceration, depriving ordinary people of bankruptcy, supporting NAFTA, media deregualtion.

Liz was not a good politician and she would have been called a socialist also.

I mean every dem candidate would be called a socialist. Joe Manchin if he was running would be called a socialist. It's just a jargon word that has no meaning the GOP throws at everything including your pet dog.

All the Bernie voters and Democratic Socialist I know agree with what you just said, including FDR.

So far Biden has done little to appeal to Bernie voters. They seem to be content with having a bit more "diversity" among the same old Clinton/Obama/Biden crowd. Hopefully even Obama realizes that as he verbalized ( he usually covers himself this way) you actually have to "go big", not just for once, please not just say it.

The election was so close iirc 55,00o votes that a hundred different factors could explain the difference: e.g Green Party;lazy, incompetent, unlikeable Hillary not even going to WI or Milwaukee once and something like 50,000 black voters there not voting for president at all; Hillary so connected w. NAFTA and shipping rust belt jobs away etc. As an aside something like 40,000 votes won Biden the election if you cunt GA. AZ another of the very close states.

The corporate dependent Dems want to believe this. Russia is at times a hassle for their agenda and the latest Russian or China or Iran or wherever evil opponent scare supports the billions to be made off of weapons The moderate/ to timid liberal corporate media did much more to help Trump and gave him hundreds of free media coverage in part because he was outrageous and generated eyeballs. google: Les Moonvives and CBS. Fox and Murdoch were all in for Trump

Dude... he’s not even president yet. He can’t sign executive orders or get bills passed until he’s sworn in.

I think you are upset because he isn’t announcing names like AOC and Bernie in his cabinet which speaks to a fundamental misunderstanding of where we are in the house and senate. In the House they have a TWO person advantage in maintaining power. The situation is even more tight in the Senate. If he pulls these big name progressives out of Congress at any point it could allow the Repugs to game the system and take power or slip insane legislation through the cracks.

Biden is also putting boring no name people in the positions that Congress has to approve because he understands how the Senate will try to mess with his admin through the appointment process so he’s putting people up for those spots who have been confirmed multiple times. I believe he’ll use the leverage there with the balance of having a more partisan person in the “acting” role as leverage to speed up nominations in the Senate so the government can get up to speed quicker.

Biden is a creature of the Senate and knows the games of that body too well. As I mentioned it could become a disabling feature if he loses Americans in the parliamentary nature of dealing with that body but on the other hand it could help in areas that we all know the Senate is needed to get anything lasting done.

So we’ll see but I think judging him based off of a few picks for cabinet positions doesn’t really take into consideration what the game plan is. We are in the middle of a historic crisis and the faster Biden’s admin can step in and take power the better off we’ll all be. He’s got to get these nominations through historically fast.

Where Biden will be making his mark with progressives will be once he’s in office how he works with, supports, and promotes legislation brought up by them IN CONGRESS. The progressives don’t really serve much purpose in the cabinet doing the day to day administrative work and it creates unnecessary risk to losing power through temporarily losing seats and potentially permanently losing seats via special election. The progressives serve a greater purpose in Congress using their pulpit to move American opinion.

    Dems have a major problem.
They goals right now is to get Kamala elected in 2024.

She is not well liked by either side
and There won't be a TRUMP there to scare people.

Kamala will need either a HIGH TURNOUT (esp among minorities)
or White People to be closer to 50/50 instead of the normal 60+ white vote going to Republicans

SO! Biden/Harris has to do something to get the Minority vote excited in the next 4 yrs
(Fear will be off the table . . .and pushing the can along with the "We'll get to you later" **** is sssoooooo over. Youngsters are not waiting)
    or
Chase the white vote they have not won in over 50 yrs.
Old Timer Democrats are doing this and chasing corporate money
This means they may lose seats in 2022 and lose completely 2024.

looking at the mmilquetoast rhetoric and attitudes coming from the Biden group
I suspect the latter will happen.

If Biden had won with a larger margin would you be saying that the direction of moderation was good?
