When i bump this in 3 years, one of us is going to look really stupid. One of the best player in the nba is a strong statement my friend.

Bump it. I’ll even bet it. Herro will be an all star within the next 3-5 years and then make his way to all nba status from there, and not look back while remaining one of the best players in the league then

we arent going to get a player to build a team around. you cant trade an old superstar for a young one. any YOUNG superstar would be off limits. i strongly disagree his ceiling is just a role player. butler, bam, and dragic may be more critical, but they SHOULD be. hes a fukkin rookie. when dragic went down they stuck in herro and PG and he did well. he is barely scratching the surface. this kid can be an all star IMO.

Its pointless to make a bet we cant verify until 2025 or so. One of us might not be be around. Clutchfans might not even be around.

I have full confidence in what i foresee in players I follow. I don’t just pull out random claims for players left and right like a lot others around here when it’s obvious it’s coming from a place of limited exposure

i want to be as positive as you but at the moment and not 100% sold he can do it consistently day in day out as opposed to more sporadically so it still is a solid 20/5/5 guy but not all star or certainly not all nba.

plus Simmons is already an all star.

I get how much of a liability Simmons shooting is. If it wasn’t we would t even be having this thread. Also Simmons isn’t quite as exciting a player, to me.

but the things like 1-5 defense at all defensive levels is easily under appreciated. It’s not clear Herro will ever be anything more than average defensively for example.

but Herro plus either Bam or Jimmy Buckets and I no question go that direction.

I couldn’t careless if Simmons is a current all star. That’s all he is. He doesn’t have an extra gear. That’s not in him. He’s limited as a player. I’m not interested in seeing Simmons be the rockets best player for years and know he’s not getting better. People are going with this safe Simmons pick. I want nothing to do with that. It’s the epitome of settling for a decent player bc at the time that’s the best you could get. Doesn’t mean that will remain true as time goes by. That’s not the point of a rebuild. Simmons is your classic going for a sure single. Someone who is part of klutch and will Surely not see the rockets as a long term destination. Your average casual fan like so many around here are too short-sighted to be able to know any better. I’m looking at the much higher ceiling and looking for way more than that especially when we had the luxury of seeing a full year including playoffs of what a 20 year old can do in the nba all the way to the finals. And not sit in the g-league

I get that Simmons is an all star at 24 but I just don't think you can build around someone who the defense just doesn't have to defend outside of the paint. I think Simmons will likely find himself as the 3rd guy on a championship team, not the 1 or 2 guy. he's Lamar odom or draymond green. both all stars but you don't build around them.

herro is a bit unknown apart from a hot shooting game or two in the finals, which isn't something to overlook either. but I think his ceiling is higher than Simmons. he's more in the Klay Thompson, Ray Allen mold where he could be a #2 guy on a championship team if he reaches his potential

jaylen brown is also a potential #2 guy. he's basically there already. young enough to sustain that level and improve for the next 5 years, and locked in contractually for nearly that length. so I'd put him ahead of Herro since he's proven and Herro is mostly potential at this point.

my favorite guy available is Michael Porter junior. he's got #1 guy potential. he's not close to that yet, but he's the only available player with that upside.

I think an ideal scenario would be to walk away with MPJ and Herro. if somehow the bucks offer Middleton and holiday for harden and gordon and we can flip Middleton for MPJ and holiday for Herro (assuming if James is in MIL then Giannis stays and Miami is willing to move on to acquire someone like holiday).

a rebuild with wall-herro-MPJ-bol-wood, with an assortment of picks and Silas at the helm, is something I could get excited about even if we suck at first and give OKC all of our picks.

Herro's rookie year, at 20, compares extremely similarly to Jaylen Brown's third year, at 23, for what it's worth.

Herro is four years younger. I asked two people who they'd prefer. They both said Brown immediately. It's not that far apart, imo.

If I had to choose between the those two. The obvious chose is Ben Simmons.

Brandon Ingram over both, you can’t trade for him until Feb., but he would be ideal.

    Your takes are ridiculously bad.

And this has nothing to do with Herro, a player I like.

Brown is a better 2 way player.

    You do realize that right?

Herro as a number 1 option on offense every single night ain’t it- especially in the western conference. Yes he’s 20 and he has upside and yes Simmons is flawed but he’s a 2 way player that gets others involved and also still has upside- not even sure how this is really a debate and that’s not a knock on herro but Simmons is an all nba player today.

Of course. Just pointing out similarities in the stat sheet.
Honestly I'm not sure how Herro could develop defensively. Is anyone?
