I agree that it's more likely if Harden is forced to play, the Rockets will be pretty good offensively. I think they'll take a huge step back defensively (at least at first), but that won't really impact Harden's value. And so it's more likely one of these other teams will underperform and could increase their package. If the front office is sold on Simmons being the best player to start over with, then the main reason for waiting is to leverage Harden's continued success and some other team's bad start to get more picks. Best case is Philly just stays around .500 and looks disjointed with both Simmons and Embiid together, while looking good with them separately. I don't mind a young core of Simmons & Wood signed to long-term deals.

Don't get me wrong, he's a great scorer and ballhog - on a team designed to beat the warriors. I wanna see how he plays a team game before i decide anything.
