Its true. We had an all time great defensive lineup with CP, Ariza, Luc, Tucker and Capela out there. We had length, speed, experience, basketball smart, it was incredible.

    Thanks Tilman.

One of the greatest teams of all time going up against and even greater team of all time. Life as a Rockets fan can be extremely unfair.

notice how CP3 made a point to mention Trevor Ariza...he was a big loss regardless of if “b-b-but he’s not worth 15 million”

yup you can tell by the way hes talking that mentioning ariza and not bringing guys back absolutely changed the dynamic of things in year 2. And not for better. The downfall of the rockets began right then and there and it's been continuing since

That is so heartening and disheartening to hear.

And to see the damn smile on his face and hear it in his voice just talking about that year let's you know how much he enjoyed it.

I have yet to hear this man say anything bad about his time here. If he had just been healthy his last year here and James hadn't gotten in his ego who knows what the bubble would have produced. We might still have had Capela and with the year CP3 had last year, who know's.

what makes it even worse is that Ariza still clearly would’ve had value seeing as how he’s been traded for Oubre and then later Covington...instead we signed Ennis, Melo, and MCW talking about “run it back”

    THIS THIS THIS!

Don't let #Tilman change the narrative right now. TILMAN is the reason we are where we are. Not Harden. TILMAN didn't spend and that forced Harden to look elsewhere. Don't let #Tilman off the hook. Don't let #Tilman change the narrative right now

CP3 had the time of his life that season...that whole team was just special

I still have games 4 and 5 of that WCF saved on the DVR

regardless of how this Harden era ends, at least we got a season like that...that was an all-time great team

back then u could call a game a wrap by halftime...I recently saw a clip from that season against the Spurs IIRC, and they had 4 points with about 3 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter...that team was just special

Harden and CP3 just taking turns abusing guys in isolation...Wesley Johnson’s chalk outline...CP3 shimmying on Curry after hitting a ridiculous three on him at the shot clock buzzer

lemme stop before I start crying

I will still die on the hill in thinking that re-signing Ariza to that contract would have been a very dumb thing to do HOWEVER the fact that Morey and the front office obviously did not have a contingency plan in place to bring in a suitable replacement for Ariza is a bigger sin imo. Like if you weren't going to bring Trevor back, you had to have had a viable Option 2 in filling that hole at forward.

Yep. That would have hurt ANY defense. Particularly because their stars are so talented you have to focus on them, and leave others open. All year long, those others had struggled to hit those shots. Against us, they started raining in. Then, our own inability to adjust to their defense didn't put much pressure on them, either. A LOT easier to hit those shots when you're in a groove, and there is no pressure on you to make it.

option 2 was exactly what the rockets did. we don't need to be reminded of the scrubs and how cf's defended how those guys were absolutely able to replace ariza at a fraction of the cost. Which obviously was 100% pure nonsense

James Dolan's would've matched that 1 year 15 million contract in his sleep.

Both of those statements can be (and in this, probably are) true. You can be both a big loss, and not worth the price it would take to keep you. Usually, though, when teams make that decision, its because they have replacement players in mind, to fill that role, who are less money. Who was the Trevor Arriza replacement, providing 3 and D???

He could have been traded for players who were worth those prices, that is the thing.
