We have the 5th highest payroll in the league!

And spending is also tied into contracts/players. If we have bad contracts we can’t unload, it makes it harder for owners to swallow the cost to get more talent. It’s still a business. You want your max value as a player, but you can’t necessarily have that and a max payroll every year — again, it’s a business. Casual fans have apparently lost grip of reality and think these dudes are just willing to throw tens of millions extra for the 1/30 chance to win (yes, I know those aren’t the real odds, but only one team wins each year).

We always b**** at owners for not spending ridiculous amounts of money to win at all costs but never the player. NEVER the player. The player can take 25% of payroll and it’s not an issue to the goal of winning. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
