    ...my favorite part was where, when they were all having the conference call in the Oval Office, with Rudy Giuliani...

    ...and somebody curses him out.

    ...we should all play a game: guess what curse-word the white house staffer on-call with Giuliani on November 19 called him...

    Just finished reading "In the Garden of Beasts" and it's pretty uncanny how things can snowball into authoritarian rule unless the other parts of democracy - citizens, legislators, courts, military - stand up to it.

    That's a good book. Great idea to document Germany's descent from the point of view of an American family in Berlin.
    Too much time spent on the stupid daughter though. I mean, I get what the author was going for but it's just like: we now interrupt this detailed portrait of the Third Reich seizing control for what you've all really been waiting for... a goofy after-school special about an American floozy!

    The daughter pissed me off for the entire book. "Do I bang the Nazi? Do I bang the KGB? Do I bang the other Nazi? Do I bang my husband back in the US? Do I bang my other boyfriend back in the US? Why not just bang them all!?!?" Pissed me off more once I learned what she did at the end and beyond. I'm glad she had to live out her life in exile.
