Flynn was working as a foreign agent and lying about his connections. He was a national security threat.
You know, as the Donald has sued someone and tied up court time as an MO for his entire life, I do hope America rises up and pelts him and his cronies, including this crook Flynn, with enough lawsuits to make their heads swim for every moment they are not in jail. Civil suits for COVID damages alone should keep the Donald busy, and I'm sure we can cook up some good stuff for Flynn the traitor. And I mean legit suits -- not the Giuliani self-immolation kind.
He wasn't tried on not registering as a lobbyist or the kidnapping so that's moot. The lying had nothing to do with that
Well you see.... He cooperated for a deal to avoid those charges. Hence, why the whole thing is corrupt beyond reprieve.
And it's like a cop lying, people entrusted with power are held to a higher standard. Flynn abused the trust of the American people, took illegal advantage of and dishonored his position. I don't think your oath to the Constitution ends with your pensioned retirement.
On November 22, 2017, John Dowd, then one of President Donald Trump’s lawyers, left a voicemail for Robert Kelner, who was representing Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser. Trump had fired Flynn for lying about his conversations with the Russian ambassador in late 2016, and Dowd suspected, correctly, that Flynn, who was under investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, was about to cut a deal with Mueller. Dowd asked for a “heads up,” if Flynn was giving Mueller information “that implicates the President.” Apparently referring to the possibility that Flynn would cooperate without giving prosecutors damning information about Trump, Dowd also said, “remember what we’ve always said about the President and his feeling toward Flynn, and all that still remains.”
I want to point out that i wrote that Flynn made that phone call after Trump took office but as your post says it was in 2016. That was the problem with the phone call, not what they talked about as much as that Obama was still president so it seems to undermine Obama's efforts @larsv8 The plea deal is just to not go through court and take less years in prison. Its not to avoid other charges. Im not a lawyer but i think thats generally what plea deals are for, avoiding court making it easier for everyone
Actually, in addition to not go to court and take less years, oftentimes a defendant will take a plea deal on one charge and have other charges dropped. My son has arranged plea deals that do just that.
Or the DOJ could accept a plea deal to shut down further investigations. Like Acosta did for Epstein. Some are saying....
When someone neglects to register their working as a foreign agent, and talking with govt. officials about govt. business with a foreign adversary who was attacking our democracy, and then lying to the FBI about it, they are are a threat to our national security. They wouldn't pass a security clearance, they are a threat to act in their own personal interest above that of the nation which can compromise their decision making. If the other nation requests favors, lack of action, etc. while offering rewards to that person it is a potential security risk.
He wasnt tried for his lobbying. I already summarized the phone call. It wasn't putting the nation at risk How do you think he put the nation at risk?
Um no. He was a cooperating to implicate other members of Trumps team. As usual, you are horribly misinformed on what actually happened.
