Damn, hate losing a chance a Baynes. We needed a big, gnarly bearded behemoth with his skills and passion.
I was thinking the same thing .... but the league has done it to themselves by promoting superstar players over teams. The financial incentive to stay with a team isn't quite large enough to get guys to stay in smaller markets. The league needs to resolve that and give the players a bonus and teams a break on the cap for those supermax guys who stay with their original team similar to how multi year vets are counted as a 2nd year vet min for cap purposes even tho they make much more. The small difference in raises year to year and an extra year on a contract aren't enough to balance things out .... That would stop all these stars from creating super teams & crying for trades when it affects their contract situation.
dedmon is very underrated. solid shooter. legit 7'. high assist rate. decent rebound/block rate. can push wood to PF and create a big lineup while staying 5-out. he would be a great get. I also like the idea of buying low on Whiteside, who I'm sure is just hoping for a little more than the vet min, or if its the vet min he'd probably hope for a starting spot. we can't offer either so its a long shot, but maybe he cares about trying to win (although money always talks unless you're a defending champ). another interesting option is illyasova. high rebound rate. solid shooter. underrated defender. he's drawn more charges than anyone over the past decade. he's lead the league in charges drawn numerous times.
too bad about baynes. we're in a tough spot because ring chasing vets will be avoiding us. they don't want to get stuck here after a harden trade. basically we can't offer money, can't offer a definite chance to compete for a title, can't offer a large role for a chance at a future payday. we need to find the diamond's in the rough. the undervalued players that morey was so good at finding.
Jae crowder is a single, they saying that Miami doesn’t have the salary to resign him. Always been a fan of him
Dedmon for a backup C? Should be able to get him for Vet min. Solid Vet big, can run PnR, shoot the 3 decently to help space the floor and is active on D.
3 spots left. 4 if you don’t think Wooten will make the final 15 man roster. Still need a backup PG and C. Who do you think the Rockets will pick up? I still want them to sign Tyler Johnson and Boogie. If Boogie can’t be convinced then they need to sign Dedmon. I also think Batum is a solid backup 4 option. Idk how much he has left in the tank but he could be a better version of Thabo who showed what high basketball IQ and passing can bring to this team from the PF position in a few games last season.
