Let's hope for the best. I do like Baynes and even Trey Burke, but losing Ro-Co hurts quite a bit, despite his less than satisfactory perimeter defense. Nwaba would have been nice, if he wasn't injured. I feel no one wants Russ. I don't think much of Tate either.

 

Correct me if I am wrong, but Is it NTMLE PLUS a future first from Detroit? (I view buying the LAL 2nd rounder as irrelevant - just a way to pay some of Ariza's salary in the deal)

 

Covington has all-star or near all-star impact; we also saw this season that his value translates to the playoffs. I don’t mind blowing it up, but you should probably get guaranteed assets if you do.

This was obviously a salary dump. The “two firsts” which have a good chance to be nothing better than second round picks are a small consolation to sell the fans that it’s worth it to save a billionaire money.

The real problem with this trade scenario was the protections on the pick from the Pistons. It has to be 17 or worse for it to convey in the next 4 years when they could have had the 16th pick right now.

They could have dumped Ariza's salary some other way .... It is an expiring , someone would have taken it at the deadline.


This was a salary dump at the expense of assets.

I'm expecting them to take a poo platter for both Harden & Westbrook just to dump the salary ....

If we're trying to contend this year, Roco is obviously the best asset.
Since it seems fairly obvious we are blowing it up, getting 2 firsts for a role player (even if he is one of the best) is a pretty decent haul IMHO.


I get that we hate stingy BrokeFerns, but it actually makes sense to prune salary as much as possible to facilitate accumulation of assets via taking on yuck salaries from other teams. See OKC for the way to do this.
I think, unlike OKC, eventually you need to cash in the assets and actually try and do something. Imagine losing Harden for the sake of a million bucks. Ouch.
