Embiid is skilled but he hasn't progressed to the level of comparing him to Shaq. He doesn't seem overly athletic or fast to me either. I am less than convinced. Koolaid fans are easily excited.
I don't get this logic at all. You're likely about to go into the first true rebuilding period since before the Yao/T-Mac era and be totally unwatchable for the first time in over a decade. You've completely crapped the bed as an owner, and the whole world knows it and is calling you out on it. It's your first major decision after forcing out the architect of your contending team, and you have a chance to bring in a monster package to rebuild for the next 5-10 years. But you're so petty, you're going to turn that down and take an inferior package out of spite? I don't understand this logic at all. And if Tilman is truly running this franchise like a business like he claims, then he shouldn't be OK with it either. If you want to win/succeed, you make the best deal possible, regardless of whether you like your partner in the deal or not. I loathe the Warriors. But if they call Stone in the next 5 minutes offering up the No. 2 pick, Klay Thompson and 3-4 future firsts, I'm taking that deal in a heartbeat.
Yep, you get it. I dont want the Rockets anywhere near Morey. Morey screwed the Rockets, he schemed his way out of Houston, and torpedoed the Rockets future, then tried/trying to take Harden from the city of Houston. I don't care how much Tilman meddled. Make a deal with anybody else except Morey. Everybody's extreme hate for Tilman is clouding the pure sliminess of Morey. If this affected my money, of course I would operate differently, but the Rockets don't affect my money and is only a hobby so I can be petty with only a hobby being impacted. As an ex Morey stan I want Morey to fail.
I just don't want Morey's sliminess to be swept under the rug or rewarded. Im having the same feelings I had when Parsons left the Rockets. This feels like that. My extreme favoritism has turned into deep dislike.
I guess I see it totally differently. I'm admittedly a little frustrated with Morey, but the man had his reasons for jumping ship and taking the Philly job. He spent 13 years trying to build the best team he possibly could in Houston, and it took Tilman no time at all to destroy that team, force one of the worst trades in NBA history, hamstring Morey by refusing to play the luxury tax and forcing Morey's head coach to leave. How much loyalty should Morey, personally, have to the franchise when his boss does everything in his power to sabotage his work? None, as far as I'm concerned. My loyalty is obviously to the Rockets, first and foremost, but I can recognize poor ownership when I see it. And if I were in Morey's shoes, I would have done exactly the same thing. Hell, I might not have waited through this season after the Westbrook deal. Morey did his job exceedingly well here for 13 years. When he felt like he couldn't do that job well anymore and there was a better offer on the table, he left and took that job instead. If any of us were to do that in our own professional lives, should our former employer and coworkers "want us to fail?" That just seems so petty to me.
Morey helped the team transition to a new coach and took out an ad in the Chronicle thanking the Rockets and the city of Houston. Parsons was partying in clubs with Mark Cuban and called Houston "dirty." I'm not sure those two things are as similar as you think they are.
Tilman was Morey's boss. You do the Job no matter how annoying (believe me i know Tilman is f*cking annoying). If you are unhappy you quit. You dont come up with a plan to pee in the break room, then pee in the break room, quit and then ask for the TV when you get to your new place while everyone else is left to clean up the mess. But I agree with a lot of what you're saying.
Anyone rational would have done the same thing Morey did. You telling me you would just stay and work for Tilman?
That add was a huge thank you to James Harden mostly and a dog whistle to get Harden to be okay with coming to play for him in Philly, IMO. Morey is very smart, very slimey.
Yep they dumped a 1st. Kind of feeling like Tilman is keeping Harden and we will be rolling out a subpar team this year. His value will not be as high next year.
Nope, but I would leave my job better than when I arrived. And Yes, Morey has made the Rockets a better team in his full 13 year run as GM, but the trade to get Russ was so bad, so un Morey-like, That one move has left the Rockets in shambles. Morey has operated under extreme constraints from both Les and Tilman and has still thrived, which leads me to believe the torpedoing of the Franchise was deliberate.
The Russ trade. It was too unMorey-like. then you find out he was talking to Philly around that time and he didn't want to trade CP3. it just feels weird.
Hos they like Morey's first move is a good one IMO: Horford, a first and a second for Green and Ferguson . . . .. . That gave them some Cap releif Rocket River
But in this case, it's like if your boss ordered you to pee in the break room and everyone around you was cheering you on. (And, yes, I recognize this analogy has gone way too far at at this point, but I'm sticking with it.) Everyone deserves some blame for the Westbrook deal, Morey included. And I guess it's hard to know how much blame is deserved by he, Tilman and Harden. I just have a hard time putting most of that blame on him when—like you said—the trade felt so unlike him. I don't think Morey does that trade if Tilman and Harden aren't forcing him to, and everything kinda points to Tilman being the driving factor in the decision, not Daryl. So am I mad at him for it? Sure. But if Tilman Fertitta isn't the Rockets owner, that Westbrook trade doesn't get made. Morey probably doesn't even consider it in the first place.
I go to jail and come out to a cluster. DONT PROTEST THE LAW! The rockets hadn’t even started the Laker series when I last knew anything. My mind is blown...
