I don't travel much so you're gonna get some of my observations from Cleveland. Its a beautiful town. That being said, since Trump's 2016 victory I've often talked about the Reagan Union Democrat aversion to immigration driving his victory I have assumed Hispanics were everywhere already wondering why are people still fighting immigration. Well on the surface i am very wrong. I know Chicago has Puerto Ricans but i haven't seen a lot of Hispanics in Cleveland. Now i understand the fight in terms of Midwesterners thinking they can still stop the country's demographics from changing. The reason I personally thought every region had a lot of Hispanics is they are 18% of the population, blacks are only 14% however like I've said, i understand the Midwest perspective a little more.
I have lived in Houston for 38 years, but I’m from Indiana where my whole family still lives. I go back three times an year and I’m quite amazed literally every visit at the influx of Mexican/Latino Americans. It’s a pretty hardcore Republican state, but I’ve not heard a peep of anything being a problem or anyone complaining about it for any reason. Indiana is kind of weird because it’s pretty right leaning, but has always been incredibly accepting of race and social differences. It’s definitely a case of the have and have nots though. At least the area I’m from is. I’ve always been taught that we are all one and that’s how I feel and teach my boys. side note: My grandfather turned 90 the other day and we had a long phone conversation on how he could not wait for Trump to be out of office. He said “you know, I think I’m a pretty good judge of character and that guy is no good. I’d like to punch him in the mouth” Haha. Yeah grandpa, I get it.
The reason why is because migration patterns show the midwest is dying. The Sunbelt has the jobs low skilled workers are flocking to. Chicago has a large ingrained central American community though. I'm really interested in the 2020 census data. I expect the the midwest to have stalled or lost population growth.

Have you been there? Have you experienced it? I know of one or two small towns where this is true. The state as a whole I disagree with you wholeheartedly. I’ve lived it. I grew up in a place that is pretty damn split race wise. Not being a dick, but unless you know, you don’t.
Yes I have been there I was friends with several guys in college who were from there and worked with a guy from Indianapolis. It is something that I teach as a History instructor about the roots of the KKK. I see this might be a sore spot so I am just gonna end this convo.

No, no, no. Not a sore spot at all. I’m not naive enough to think that there isn’t racism in Indiana. That would be ridiculous. I know about certain towns where things were kicked off and I’m sure they could still be like that. All that said, I was replying to OP’s topic and what I said holds true. I’ve experienced and seen what he was asking and I know without question what I stated is accurate. Can’t make a blanket statement for the state though. It’s just not true. I think that's the ideal approach towards integrating and it's probably why Dems have a hard time figuring out the Latino/Hispanic vote. Most people who immigrate here just want to put their head down and give their children opportunities they wouldn't have received in their land of birth. When that's realized and respect becomes a two way street, they'll lean more politically to whatever their neighbors believes. Con values of working hard for success and emphasizing community are very appealing to industrious immigrants. They're not SJW because they don't have neither the time nor energy to focus on other groups rights, let alone theirs. It's mainly that racism/xenophobia bit that's in the way. Makes the **** going on in Europe sad and depressing...
Chicago has more Mexicans than Central Americans or Puerto Ricans. Especially in Little Village and Pilsen although it's getting gentrified. I was born there and still have lots of family in the area. Not sure how we have two Chicago references and no mention of their presence there lol. That said, outside of Chicago it's true there's not much of a Hispanic presence in the Midwest.
Btw, I’m totally not upset in any way shape or form. I’m sure there are crazy stories in every state. Racism is a b**** and exists everywhere. Spending so much time there, I just haven’t seen it like that. I truly haven’t.
