If they're not socialists getting handouts while people starve from covid, what do people call them? Red Blooded Deadbeats? Corn Street Capitalists?
many different kinds of farmers farmer's should receive as much assistance as possible .. food for domestic consumption should not be grown with economics in mind , it should be grown with the humans who consume them in mind wto has messed up agriculture big time and forced many to use terrible practices to grow soy/corn on dead soil educate farmers to grow real, healthy food that always has demand
Dirty government handouts that destroy the culture within the farming community. Incentivizes them to stay reliant upon the government instead of being self-sufficient, which systemically makes them neo slaves to the welfare system.
The assertion that government or anyone other than the free market gets to decide someone's pay is the very definition of socialism. Even down to the comments about this job or product being more important than others. These are classic socialist arguments. I don't mean this in any kinda of gotcha way but both parties being essentially aligned on this is not a good thing.
I have no problems with subsidizing farmers. Those low prices get passed on to everyone since we all eat. Their survival is probably more important to National security than anything else. Hungry people start wars. I would definitely get away from subsidizing corn and soybeans as much as we do, but I understand why we do it. Those products and byproducts have long shelf lives which brings stability to the food market.
Right...... but what about education and healthcare then? As far as corn..... we don't need to keep subsidizing corn syrup and ethanol.
Some of y'all would allow thousands of American families filing for bankruptcy because of unpaid medical bills rather than offer universal healthcare.
i know the generalthades and daudouchedas of the world are on putins payroll, but we dont get paid by the federal government for writing internet posts or even for dick riding. and you should ask the republicans and trump dick riders why they no longer have a problem with subsidies after opposing them for decades.
What just about to say this. I think even though this was a giant pissing contest with China, they still need to be helped. Feel the same way about Healthcare and Education. Both need to run for the betterment of the country. Both go hand in hand with making a better society. This next year is going to be a very tumultuous time for us a society.
some of yall would rather start a trade war with china that directly hurts our farmers and then have to bail out the farmers with $40+ billion in subsidies while believing trump when he falsely claims that china is paying for it.
We do subsidize education and healthcare. The argument is how far we expect the government to go. I personally believe in a public option since we all need healthcare, so we can have more efficiency by doing so. However, I wouldn't go to war to protect healthcare like I would to protect our food and water sources. In regards to higher education, I don't think people have a right to it. I personally believe we should invest in our smart/hard working people. If you get 1300 (arbitrary score) on your SAT(arbitrary test), you should be able to go to college if you want to, as long as its in an area of need (don't need any more lawyers or bloggers).
Farm facts https://www.fb.org/newsroom/fast-facts One American farm feeds 166 people here and abroad There are 2MM farms. Multiplying the numbers would simply mean American farms feed 332MM people. The US population is 328MM last count I was trying to figure out America's role in feeding the world
