We got plenty of room. Invite them to settle in Wyoming or Montana or Alaska or Nebraska or the Dakotas. Reagan's amnesty was in what '84, so 15 million over 25 years, so not a big deal at all.

They don't exactly disperse evenly throughout the country. Yes, it's a big deal for schools, it's a big deal for infrastructure, it's a big deal for fraud, it's a big deal for crime, it's a big deal for poverty, t's a big deal for health care, it's a big deal for a lot of things. It's just obtuse to think that tens of millions of people come into the country illegally to work and have children and it doesn't adversely affect anything or anyone.

It's not a big deal for any of those things. Make them citizens. Collect taxes. Stop ****ing passing tax cuts. Pay for ****. Easy as pie. Illegal immigrants are not overwhelming any of those systems. Stop lying.

I am. I know it can be amended, and it should be difficult to amend, But it shouldn’t be impossible, and that’s how most people view it these days.

also, in this day of ubiquitous internet, I think it’s time to start talking about national referendums.

Actually to qualify for daca I thought you can't have a serious criminal record. Unless they changed that

Can Medals of Freedom be easily rescinded?

Edit: Oh, whoops. Missed the title has a "not" in it.

There are a lot I want to continue, but with a very different perspective. Some goals might be the same, but the path is very different.

1- Assume election fraud is everywhere and widespread. Require minimum level of automatic independent security audit for all elections, hard paper trial for all election, and federal and state resources to handle and process election security and on-time (min max time defined by Fed gov while each States define their own max time). Harsh penalty for anyone committing election fraud or undermining the election process or security. No exception, especially for POTUS, Congress members and other government officials.

2- Assume existence of a deep state. New federal laws against creation or sustaining of deep state actors with severe penalty for breaking it. Require transparency of the American people - all secrets must be made publicly available after 5 years. Only methods and contacts may remain secret as long as they are for protection of American spies, hidden agents and methods not yet publicly known. Greater protections for whistle blowers and severe punishment, especially of high-level officials with powerful political influence, for retaliation against whistle blowers.

3- Drain the swamp. Too many to list all out. New federal laws with deep transparency and severe punishment for breaking them. No exception especially for high level government and military officials. All contacts and communications must be recorded for government record with no exception. No personal devices or security to by-pass record keeping. Severe punishment for any backdoor deals to any special interest, business or individuals. Severe punishment for any personal favors for government officials. All high-level government officials must provide clear financial records and disclose any potential conflict of interests.

4- Freedom of speech. Laws against suppressing facts from paper, against suppressing fact-based papers from government workers.

5- Engage NK head-on. Find a path for them to become the next Vietnam - modernize their economy and status with capitalism mixed with their own method of government.

6- Health care cost price transparency. Tackle this as part of the CFPB or a new sister agency.

7- Immigration as is, is bad (non-legal status, business cheats, worker harassment, free rider, ....). Build a real legal, simple and clear wall based on real reform for the modern work force, businesses need, and American's need. I have no problem with a two or three tier workforce (lower pay below some min wage for certain industry, deferred payment to US gov for entry and citizenship) based on immigration that have a full path to citizenship. Severe punishments for businesses and individual that breaks the new legal wall.

8- Nuclear energy. Re-focus on sustaining new nuclear energy technology and mini power plants to replace energy that harm earth and human.

    ...

no......and yes. I don’t think you can just make huge wholesale changes to the way a huge country operates. At least not often. But I liken our current situation in government in some ways to the way our taxing system works. The tax code is huge and unwieldy, and companies pay tax professionals a LOT of money to.....basically......look for the loopholes within the system of statutory and case law in order to pay the least amount of tax possible. I don’t have an issue with that, and when you have the brightest minds looking at where a system is broken, it’s easier to patch the holes. I look at where our system of government and politics has gone in my lifetime, and it seems like some bright minds have really figured out how to exploit it to their benefit at the expense of the nation. As much as I deplore Trump, his ability to mobilize a large part of the population behind him is really impressive. He’s like an idiot savant. Of course, the internet in general, and social media in particular have been his main tools, and they weren’t always available, but I really feel like he’s exposed some huge issues in our system. The problem is, I don’t see anyone rushing to try and fix these issues. We’ll probably never be completely immune to a cult of personality, but separating fact based reporting from editorials and figuring out this social media/free speech/internet conundrum is certainly something to address.

anyhoo, I’ve rambled off......back to your question, I don’t think we can just make wholesale changes left and right, but I also don’t see a lot of compromise happening in our government these days. I envision a system where maybe we have a National referendum vote every two years. We vote on one referendum, and we vote on one subject to be addressed two years later. So each two years gets a referendum vote AND something to work on for the next two years. For each subject, our representatives would be tasked with drafting “candidates” for laws representing varying views on a subject. It could even be done on a “wiki” like basis where everyday citizens can offer their input. Coalitions in the house could put forth competing candidate laws, and the populace could vote on them. I’d be cool with setting a high threshold.....like say passage needs 75% or more of votes to bind the referendum into law. It might make actual passage of a national law by referendum next to impossible, but it would certainly take some of the power away from special/corporate interests and back into the hands of individual voters. It would also encourage people to educate themselves and see and recognize other points of view, and it would engage people in important national discourse. And if someone just can’t handle the discussion in the centrist candidate’s wiki, there would surely be a far right or far left candidate referendum discussion they could engage in.

of course, I’m waxing poetic here......the internet has REALLY made the world a much smaller place, and in a first world country like the US, it’s put probably 99% of the country a simple click away from the remaining 99%. We could really come together with a tool like this. But, of course, we’ve instead turned it into this rotting cesspool. My idea—or an iteration of it produced by smarter people—won’t work; not because it’s inherently flawed, but because too much money, power, and people enjoy the broken system we have.

If the media wasn't so busy chasing the Russia story, people would give credit to Trump as you have for exploiting the internet. Obama did it first to mobilize ground troops on election day to get people who wavered on voting

Every election is about turnout and Republicans turnout more year to year. Trump as a celebrity didn't need to rise through ranks. Any celebrity can do it.

The party system is about ideology but its also about organization and credibility. We don't know our legislators so we trust the parties to vet them. Celebrities don't need that and they don't have to be knowledgeable on issues because the average voter is not knowledgeable

The incentive to come here “illegally” isn’t birthright citizenship. It’s because American businesses are willing to hire.

Yet again we see immigrants being used as a scapegoat when they aren’t a cause. Further I will point t out that nearly all studies show that immigration including “illegal” has been shown as a net positive to the US economy.

I will also point out that birthright citizenship why it’s kn the 14th Amendment is for social justice reasons. As noted it was originally to guarantee freed slaves citizenship but under it not only grants immigrants citizens but also was expanded citizenship to Native Americans.

And many immigrants including DACA and those here illegally provide healthcare and education. If you look at many of the Doctors doing briefings regarding COVID many are immigrants or the children of immigrants.

you are—without a doubt—one of my favorite posters here. This site is better because of your presence. But I disagree with you on this. I think your view on this is clouded by emotion (from what you’ve said, rightfully so). To me, we either want completely unabated and unregulated immigration, absolutely no immigration at all, or something in between. I hope that most reasonable people want something in between, but to have that, we must have at least a few laws regulating immigration. And I believe that birthright citizenship undermines those laws by incentivizing people here illegally to have children stateside. I understand that you disagree, but I stand by my assertion.
