There's always gonna be idiots or people who vote with bad instincts though, we just have a system that exaggerates their power to the point where they can win fewer votes, govern in bad faith, and still maintian power. If you have a vocal dumb minority that implements bad policy so be it, provided they are rewarded for their successes and punished for their failures. However, our broken institutions don't punish, and in many ways, reward failure and malfeasance. That's not the way democracy is supposed to work.
