Again with the ridiculous comparisons, being in the 99%+ of people who "survive" COVID-19 isn't at all similar to "surviving" an auto accident, unless you are talking about "surviving" a fender bender.

Imagine having tapped someone's bumper and having people run up telling you how you are lucky to be alive, worried about the long term health effects from the accident. Then listening to them talk about how all travel should be banned so that everyone would be safe from this kind of horrible thing.

How would you view those people?

I would suggest that education is the solution here, the more you learn about it, the less irrational fear you'll have.

I've been around. I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery so I don't post as much.

Remember when the Commodores of the world told that Sweden's model was great and getting them to herd immunity?

    https://www.businessinsider.com/swe...onavirus-cases-hospitalisations-surge-2020-11

Sweden has admitted its coronavirus immunity predictions were wrong as cases soar across the country

    ...

    • Sweden's chief epidemiologist has admitted that the country is now experiencing a second wave of coronavirus despite predicting that the country's no-lockdown policy would prevent another surge.
    • Tegnell had suggested that case numbers would be "quite low" in the autumn compared to other European countries which imposed lockdowns.
    • However, the latest figures show Sweden is experiencing higher levels of coronavirus cases, hospitalizations and deaths than its neighbours, relative to population size.

    Are you even surprised?

Just go enjoy your holidays everyone. Sure, take steps that are reasonable, but if you are really asking close friends and family to wear a mask inside your house, then just don't have people over.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt of telling the truth about having tested positive for COVID. However, there's a problem with your logic of rather getting the flu than COVID. Not all people get the asymptomatic or a mild case like the one you've encountered. It really varies from person to person. Some old people get the mild case, while some young people die from a severe one, even without underlying health issues.

I had it back in April, as did quite a bit of my family.

I was speaking for me personally, given my age and health there's almost no chance of a serious case. The most likely scenario is yet another weak illness that would be significantly less severe than the flu.

Contrary to what you said, almost no "young people" die from COVID-19, even those with underlying health concerns. Of course it depends on how you define "young people", but those 14 and under have a greater risk of death from influenza than COVID-19 and those under 40 have a chance of dying from COVID-19 significantly closer to 0% than to 1%.

COVID-19 is obviously something that should concern elderly people (specifically those over 70) and those who frequently come into contact with elderly people, but for everyone else is not a credible enough of a threat to stop living your life out of fear.

Taking reasonable precautions is one thing, canceling holidays and staying locked in your homes is another.

    Oh is that so?
I will also tell you the facts.
50% of the people in the ICUs here are 40-64 years old.
    50%!
    And rising by the day.

So if most of them survive having spent 4 months in ventilators,
leaving with permanent half their lungs dead,
    having heart and nerve damage
    having brain fog
they will not make it to your death statistics.
    But it is fine, right?
We shouldn't fear monger because they are alive even with lung damage for life.

Oh and dear Bobby..you seem awfully relaxed having it had once unscathed. You think yourself immune?

Who knows what will happen the next time you have it.

Afterall many people end up much worse the second time.

Between those under 40 and those over 70 there is 30 years. An age category which a significant part of the population is.
I would like to meet one person who doesn't come in any contact with 40-69 year olds so they don't have to worry.
    Oh they don't exist.

Perhaps that is the case in Greece, I can't speak to that and wasn't attempting to. I was providing the actual numbers for the US and the situation you described is not relevant to what actually happens here.

If the horror story you described is true in your country then you should absolutely be worried about the poor state of medical care where you live.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/13/health/coronavirus-reinfection.html

Coronavirus Reinfections Are Real but Very, Very Rare

There are exceptions, but reinfections have been very rare and generally more mild.

I wish hyper lib Boris Johnson would stop watching so much BBC fear-mongering and start reading Clutchfans hangout posts so he would know the truth and open up the country he is supposed to be leading.

Awesome! I’ll have to let my grandmother know about this analogy. She is in the ICU right now in College Station. Hopefully I’ll get to see her again.
