So... it looks like the GOP is about to win back two of the House seats in Orange County. My district has Young Kim leading Gil Cisneros, and a neighboring district has Michelle Steele leading Harley Rouda. Both seats were long-held by Republicans (Ed Royce and Dana Rohrbacher) until 2018 before flipping to Democrats. With all the recrimination about how the Dems lost house seats, I am thinking a part of it is simply that they flipped a bunch of seats in formerly GOP districts back in 2018 when Democratic voters were very motivated (for a midterm, especially) and Republicans were not. 2020 is an election with record turnouts on both sides, so we are talking about one where the voter motivation level for both parties are just about maxed out. So it's not shocking for the GOP to gain the seats back. Also, the new GOP Reps are both Korean American women while the pre-2018 GOP reps were old white men. Glad to see the party diversifying a bit, let's see how they act in Congress.
