[ Not really. The New Voting Rights Act passed in 2019, as did DC statehood. Popular vote compact is pretty heavily pushed by Democratic leaders in blue states. And I believe that if McConnell didn't steal back the Senate, these things and more would have been on the agenda. People were talking about the John Lewis act quite a bit as a high 2021 priority but now it's in Moscow Mitch's graveyard. The super radical plan - there something where you can make DC into 50 states and then abolish the Senate - hasn't been floated by leadership. I ... don't blame them for that one, though IMO that might be the only real remedy
Corporate Democrats only want the iron clad control that Republicans have over their members Rocket River
I don't really get what you're saying here but anyway the fact D's are a coalition party rather than a mostly homogeneous cult is probably good rather than bad. Second, I saw some one pointed out today that Ds have knockdown brawls about policy unlike RS becausethey actually care about policy and governing, whereas Rs almost entirely only care about owning the libs by having power, and so will change policy views very easily
We need a smarter, younger, better looking version of Trump to really shake things up in the world. I’ve said it several times over the years. I don’t think you should get rid of the electoral college. Perhaps allocate 50% to the winner. Then the other 50% should be allocated according to the percentage that you received. You have to assume part of the reason this country has a low turnout is that your vote as a conservative doesn’t count for anything federally in California and NY. And until recently a liberal vote meant nada in Texas. I also wish they would randomly have the primaries in different order every election. Iowa and New Hampshire shouldn’t always be first. all just my opinions
They are also not eager to tackle the unknown i.e. how many silent republicans in deep blue states vs silent dems in deep red states. Also you cant do away with electoral college until you put in place federal electoral laws that gets rid of the current partisan charade we call an electoral process.
I’m more curious what direction the Republican Party goes. There seems to be 4 types. The QAnon crowd, the Matt Gaetz/ Ron Desantis we need to fight to the end 100% pro Trumpers, the Crenshaw, Haley, Pence let the Democratic process take place and count every vote 99% Trumpers and the Flake/ Romney/ Sasse old Republicans. And I guess we could include an outsider like Tucker Carlson.
The key to the right wing vote is Rupert Murdoch. He’s basically going to pick between backing Trump who we all know will try to run again if he’s not in jail or hasn’t fled to Slovakia, and whatever person is the feature or face of FoxNews who is seen as the lead attack dog to Biden. Laura Ingram or Tucker make the most sense right now. Unclear if a member of Congress can do what they do or what Trump did in 2014 - 16 to generate that media presence. What I think is going to happen is you’ll see Trump from day 1 in January launch himself back into the media. Whether that be taking over OANN, launching a YouTube channel, or having his own show on Fox. Then you’ll see him pretty soon after start to hold rallies again.... yeah I know.... sounds stupid but I believe that fascist performance art is what will be his measuring stick to show that he’s still the candidate for 24. If Trump is still drawing crowds and is able to setup a routine media presence, he’ll be the candidate again in 24. I think the right will ultimately conclude the issue was Pence. He added nothing and it was stupid for them not to replace him. So it has to play out but my bet would be Trump is back on the ticket again in 24. But we just have to see if he can prove himself to Rupert or force his hand to back him by holding his market hostage. Watch out for the rallies as the primary proving ground to get back in Rupert Murdoch’s favor.
Donald J and the fam will be spending the next 4 years in criminal and civil litigation. The Southern District has cases ready, The NY States Attorney has cases ready. And typically they will start rolling over the underlings and work their way up the chain. The IRS under new management with NSA data will backtrack every money exchange ever made by a crumbling empire. Everyone who knows something will say something, there will expose' after expose'. While gridlock will achieve nothing, at least we will gave a great crime drama to entertain us.
Nice bunch of post-election demographic voting DATA from the Financial Times. Highlights contrasting 2016 to 2020: * biggest shift % wise for Biden was college educated white men * biggest shift % wise for Trump was Hispanic populations MOAR good stuff: And hyper-polarized geography, (with a shout-out to medal-of-freedumb winner Limbaugh here): Salty grains: based in part on exit polling and hard to incorporate mail-in chunks without fancy modeling assumptions.
Watching Trump's total meltdown and end up with a bunch of crackpot lawyers doing speeches from a parking lot in front of a landscaping shop and next to an adult film store....is a lot more sad than I thought it'd be.
...don't give up hope yet there, my friend. ...there's still moving day to look forward to. ...and if I were to pray (to anybody's god)... ...I'd pray that the Donald gives all of us one last look at his fat orange ass, and pretend like he's going to fight the eviction notice. ...I've never seen the Secret Service handle one of those things before, so I'm getting my popcorn ready... ...and keeping my fingers crossed to see a great show...
This was tweeted by a Trumper but he's right. It should have been a landslide victory to Biden but people and media regardless of politics need to do better and lift their standards. At the moment there are too many idiots on both sides.
Our country is going to ****. People are in for a rude awakening when foreigners won't buy dollars anymore. This could happen within eight years and instead of using that window to build more infrastructure, we let companies over lever themselves for dumb stock buybacks with Uncle Sam as the cosigner of risk. Zombie companies living paycheck to paycheck will be the theme as we worship on the altars of capitalism praying for "our retirement". What an era of greed and opulence where only 10% truly benefit... The world is starting to look at all of us as a lazy or violent Trumper rather than some motivating or aspiring leader. Eh **** what other people think. They hate our Greatness.
Thank you for a proper post mortem. Everyone else here just coming to troll post ******** on Trump. I hate him too but wtf, stay on topic. My 2 cents, state-level voting systems need help and funding. Media polling should be investigated and fact checked. Media should hold each other accountable and whistleblow on all the shitty jobs they've done. Partisanship has gone out of hand. People need to learn how to educate and learn from each other in a productive manner instead of escalating conflict. Media needs to be held accountable for exacerbating polarization in American politics. This is stupid.
