I wish we had some data about which wing of the Democrat party is the most responsible for "woke" identity politics. There are legit arguments from either side that they don't own it. Either way, the narratives about "systemic" racism, sexism, and all the other isms are mostly total bullshit and a huge weight around the neck of the left.
Oh yeah...we can't have a proper Thanksgiving this year because of covid, probably Christmas too. But one here, one there, as the situation is appropriate....
Thats just a silly argument. The problem with these liberals is that they too caught up with their ideologies and too naive when it comes topolitics. For all his failings, Trump understood the ignorance of the US electorate very well.
No money? He had the entire publicly owned media and publicly owned insurance companies and publicly owned O&G compaines along with superpacs of other candidates to spam messages of how radical Bernie is. Please dude. If you think Biden didn't have the entire backing of the corporate world over Bernie, you are naive. Biden doesn't need to spend money from his own campaign during the primaries. He gets to have random superpacs and think tanks funded by bankers and executives do the dirty work of smearing Bernie.
Technically, the first part isn’t true...even though I’ve seen it going around a little bit. Benjamin Harrison lost the popular vote to the incumbent, Grover Cleveland, in 1888, but won the electoral college...he then lost both in 1892 to Cleveland.
Ya that's why Democrat core voters are the least reliable to show up to the polls and the GOP is far more successful in having a dedicated base that shows up to the polls. Hence why Democrats suck at down ballot elections. Hence why conservstive always have higher voter turnout especially in the smaller elections such as midterms and runoffs. Democrats lost to the worst candidate in American history four years ago and held to position of power.
Biden's campaign messaging was all about decency and the "soul of the nation". He didn't really lead with economics, and it showed up in the exit polls, because Trump slaughtered Biden 5-to-1 on economic concerns with voters.
You asked why Black voters would like Bernie more than Biden and what's more relevant than god damn policy and voting record?
Just look at the last few pages of this thread, and you will have one of the primary reasons. Bernie Sanders is never getting the Democratic nomination for president, but, instead of accepting that reality and moving on, there is still an ongoing discussion among some Democrats about how Bernie would have done instead of Biden. The Republican Party is really good at creating and distributing a consistent, unified message to their voting base, whereas different factions of the Democratic Party struggle to put aside their differences to do the same. That needs to change.
There is some truth to it. Democrat voters are hippies, only show up every 8 or 12 years. Where is da bong?
The fact that the majority of the country still trust the GOP with the economy over Democrats just shows how bad they are at messaging.
I didn't say it would be easy, just that it would take negotiation, and that filibuster thing should definitely be used as a threat in these next 2 years depending on the mood of the country. A sort of, either you work with us now or we take the senate in 2022 and do what we want. "How can you be so sure that Dems would win in 2022?" That's a good question, but this map didn't heavily favor Dems (only slightly) and a possible dejected GOP base...which is going to play a role from here on out. The 2022 map is worse for the GOP. All this depends on how Biden does of course. If he can calm the Coronavirus situation down he's only going to gain more trust and if he makes it clear that he's trying to deliver healthcare but Mitch and the GOP won't allow it, we could see and hope that the Senate goes back to functioning as it should. He has the bully pulpit and that's powerful.
The fact that I've heard multiple moderates here along with establishment candidates b**** about Bernie trying to solve racial issues with economic populism rather than eole politics, I'm betting it's the establishment that cares more for woke politics. Woke politics let's you ignore economic reform. Which wing of the party would rather brush aside economic reform?
and that was the right approach cos nothing Biden could have said would have swayed Americans from their delusions that the economy was doing great. Dems need to understand that a large part of the US electorate are ignorant, and act accordingly, to have any chance of long term success
I cannot believe my entire adult life Democrats have not been able to successfully defuse and reverse criticism of socialism. Like, mother ****ers, do you like the military, roads, hospitals, and schools? How hard is it to sell that to people?
Dude I'm responding to people who said that proggesive ideas is what lost the Democrats the Senate. I'm responding to that.
