Wow do I hope Stone and Silas succeed. One of the final questions finally got to some of the stuff I had hoped someone would ask. Here's a paraphrase of the question and Silas' answer : What will the Rockets look like? looking at the roster, there's a lot of things they did with Golden State back when he worked with Nellie that they can do with this group still in the process of studying the team and its strengths and weaknesses one of the things he and Rafael have been talking a lot about even during the interview process is that in today's NBA, you can't play one way -- you have to have multiple ways of playing. Small ball can be a part of it, but you can also have a bigger guy - a traditional-type center where he can roll to the rim or duck in. Do different things where the match-ups will be a little bit better and more traditional. On the offensive end, being a little bit less predictable (smiled when he said this). On the defensive end, the same thing - being a little bit less predictable as far as so much switching and getting into playing a bit of zone. As an offensive coordinator, playing against teams that have different ways of defending is tough and it takes a lot of time to prepare for. I want to be that team -- you have to spend a day preparing for the Houston Rockets before the game so you have everything covered.
but morey still exuded confidence w/ his words, not an endless drivel of "um, uh, you know" interlaced w/ vapid corny platitudes. stone, as our purported mastermind and lead trade negotiator, looks to me underwhelming and more like the interim GM until tilbitch switches patrick in
carl what about their intellect and heart, don't those also count for something with you? we men are tired of just being treated like pieces of meat for others to gawk at you know!
Well, he did give credit to Eli Witus as always being the smartest guy in the room, so he's got backup. I'm thinking most of these guys rely and feed off each others' strengths. Sort of a basketball Voltron. I'm guessing it was the same when Morey was here except Morey was the figurehead -- albeit with well-deserved praise. I wish somebody would've just come out and asked about the 3's & layups offense and if that's still a thing.
Yeah, one other thing he said was that in forming their bench, they're looking for former head coaches that can offer differing ideas instead of a bunch of guys that agree with the coach and nod their heads.
Didn’t get that at all from watching. Silas was super excited and thankful; Stone is a deals guy. Tad? Who cares, just sit there and be quiet.
MDA and Morey time was done here and it’s obvious. Stone embraces variety, big men and Silas basically laughed at how un diversified our offense was. I’m excited for the new era. Silas can be a lifer!
Lol. Anything at the press they would have said the same posters who are for whatever reason spinning it like it was amazing would tell themselves these guys are just awesome. Usually you’d see much more excitement at things like this and cf’s would be all over it. Very telling the lack thereof at this point. Most just understand the rockets are in a bad space right now and for the foreseeable future. I wonder who lasts longer stone or harden in the next 3 years tbh
Pretty big type of grin anyway. I'm excited listening to him, he said all the right things. Would be a bigger deal if he didn't right? Oh no James and Russ just do what they do. Yeah top 10 defense we'll be fiiiiine. No, he was coachspeaking but he was giving the answers we at least wanted to hear. Let's see it in action now! I can't remember word for word what he said but he gave a bit of coaching on how to limit the double teams. Lord have mercy, can he do that??? Harden going for fiddy a night if so.
Doesn't matter. If he doesn't bring results, he is gone by the end of the day. As everyone else should be.
We should be happy the circus has gone to Philly. Remember when Morey wouldn't shut up? Made us the target of refs, media and Stern/Silver? These are those days you asked for. Were our front office doesn't gloat about what they can do they just do it. Stone's been around for a while he knows what he is doing. Will he be as creative with contracts as Morey that remains to be seen.
