I would have too, but I'm confident in saying that wasn't the offer. Plus, any trade of Merciless probably would have had the Texans taking on some or all of his salary.
I understand your mindset of wanting to trade guys and firesale. Like I can understand that objectively. I disagree with it, but I can understand it. But your DW4 (hate?), well I guess hate is a strong word. Your luke-warm, one-toe-in-the-water feelings about our franchise QB are just bizarre. You are one of very few people that have so many doubts about him. I do think some of your criticisms of DW4 are legitimate, but I also think you overly focus on his negative plays/attributes, and take for granted a lot of the incredible things he brings to the table.
I can’t believe that guy is 41. Impressive career really. Maybe they are just looking for some veteran, sage advice for Watson.
He's one of the guys I keep hearing could be a good coach. Look at what Kellen Moore did for Dallas when they were clicking.
If they were to say pay 2.5 million of the 5 million remaining on WFV's salary they would still get 2.5 million in cap carryover. A 4th and a 5th would give them three 4ths, including their high 4th and two 4ths. They would have the ammo to move up into the 2nd and then back up into the 3rd if they wished to make another move.
Trading DW4 isn't what I consider a fire sale. I dont hate anybody and particularly DW4. I just think he's an avg QB, not a franchise QB.
Nobody mentioned trading DW4 except you, and you can't possibly want to do that right? Like there is no way you are that dense right? Objectively, by basically any measure, Watson is a top 10-12 QB with most people considering his potential putting him around the top 5. But objectively, he isn't average. That is just absolutely insane. I'm going to disengage. It's too early for this nonsense.
I'm good with getting a new regime in here and hoping Watson improves. I wouldn't trade him until after a couple of more years with the new regime if he doesn't show improvement. I just think as of right now I happen to think he's an avg QB, you dont. We disagree and there's nothing wrong with this Time will tell, but after he gets his handpicked HC if he doesn't improve in a couple of years they should move on. Problem is that's when the big money on his contract kicks in. I'm willing to give Watson one year to learn the new HC's offense but in year two he needs to become a top tier QB.
Yeah, Watson needs to improve, but he’s an above average quarterback who has been playing in a way below average system. I do agree that he absolutely does need to improve in some areas though. He has plenty of upside, which could be scary under someone like Bieniemy, but was not well utilized in O’Brien’s shitty ass offense. Even still, he has some work to do before he can reach his full potential.
I'm curious to know what QBs you put in the "top tier" ahead of Watson. For this season, and for the next five years, so we can factor in potential. If you're game I'll do a list too. But it seems clear to me that your assessment is based almost entirely on the "eye test" because objectively he just isn't average, by nearly any measure you want to look at.
THIS. I don't know anyone saying he is perfect or fully refined, but he is absolutely a franchise QB and someone you could win a SB with.
Isn't the idea to trade guys with more expensive contracts, guys that aren't young? You know, to gain cap space and trim the fat on the roster? Either that or the sarcasm just went right over my head. Clutchfans: "Trade JJ Watt!!!!" We are only being offered a 3rd round pick and have to pick up 80% of his salary. "**** it, trade him." --- "Trade Will Fuller!!!!!" GB's best offer is a 4th round pick and pick up his entire remaining salary for the year. It gives us no cap advantage and a day 3 pick. "**** it, I want MOAR TRADES!!!!" --- "Trade Brandin Cooks for a 4th!!!!" We just traded a 2nd for him, and his contract is very reasonable with little (or no?) guaranteed money after this year. "Yeah well B.O.B. made that trade, time to start over and get draft capital!!" You're getting a day 3 pick. It's not that good players don't ever come from the 4th round, but his value should be higher than that. He's been traded twice for a 1 and once for a 2, and he's played well this year. "Whatever, trades!!!" --- "Trade Cooks, Cobb, Fuller, Fells, Johnson, Merciless, Watt, Reid, Cunningham!!!!!" First of all, half of those guys have large contracts. It would probably be hard to trade them without having to take on a lot of their salary. If you can, then sure. Secondly, you want to trade ALL of DW4 WRs? Are you trying to get him killed in the remaining 9 games? "I'd take 2 7th's for all of them. Gimme MOAR TRADES!!!!" Even if we have to take on the majority of their salary so it doesn't help the cap situation? "WE ARE GONNA SUCK FOR THE NEXT 58 YEARS ANYWAY MOAR TRADES!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Brady Brees Mahomes Jackson Burrow Hebert Ryan Dak Rodgers Wilson Kyler Carr Ben Tannehil you get the idea. Can Watson be better than some of those guys? Sure but he's not there yet.
Derek Carr? Is this real life? Before this year he didn't even know what a WR was. All he did was throw dump downs. I don't think he's trash, but there is no reason to continue this conversation if you actually believe Derek Carr is a better QB than Watson. Geezus.
