The common perception is they don't care or cynicism. Not so quit. A Biden Admin need to make it easier to vote. It's pro-democracy. And it's for ALL age groups, not just younger Americans. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-younger-americans-dont-vote-more-often-no-its-not-apathy/
It you actually let these things stop you, then you don't REALLY want to vote. These are excuses... apart from real emergencies, it's not hard to solve these issues if you actually care enough to vote.
Waited in line for an hour: Didn't bother to vote early. Chalk that up to apathy Couldn't get off to vote: Didnt bother to vote early. Chalk that up to apathy Missed Voter registration: Procrastinated. Chalk that up to apathy Didn't receive absentee ballot: I suppose if they are in the military or overseas or other circumstances, valid point. Couldn't find their polling place: Again apathy. Clearly not trying very hard Was told their name wasnt on the voter list: Yeah, shocker. You have to register. If you dont know this, you probably shouldn't be voting. Didn't bother checking? Again, apathy. Provision ballot is voting. Correct identification: What did you bring? your mcdonalds name badge? Voter drop boxes do not require ID. Couldn't get the help to fill out ballot: uhhhhh If voting is important to you, show some initiative. This year by far had the biggest outreach campaign for both parties. The social media platforms gave plenty of information.
Making it easier to vote is pro-democracy. "Taxing" Americans and making it more difficult is anti-democracy. What are you for? Anti-democracy?
I have to say I agree with you. Most of those excuses are just that. Now, if you're in a state where it is decided your vote would hurt their preferred candidate, yes, name not matching can occur. But if you really want to vote, in most cases, you can't hide behind excuses.
I mean you can make it easier... but they will make excuses. Why do you care about this issue so much? Do you think young people are really less capable of overcoming these issues? Why not just accept the more likely reason.. apathy. A long documented issue with young voters. How about return civics to high school and teach its importance.
What employer ever denied an employee the opportunity to leave work and vote? That is...assuming they were working all day long every day and couldn't get to the polling location...which is unlikely. That's a bullsh_t excuse.
Fine, then let them make excuses, it's none of your business. I'm for pro-democracy, for making it easier to vote, like every other modern civilize democracy. What is it that make you want to sustain barriers? Anti-democracy?
Well, maybe this guy that worked all the way to night time and then dragged his body to vote in Harris recently because Harris broke down barriers by having more polling stations and with 24/7 hours access for some of them. So much easier to vote. Pro-democracy. You know, some people have to work and can't get off because they need the money. Boss should love this too. Go vote on your own damn time, not during work time (especially if takes hours).
That only works in Ohio and Wyoming. I believe it used to work in Texas, though, until they changed how they get potential juror lists. Yes, I looked it up. Even still...I think that is a common belief out there that has prevented many young people from registering to vote.
How much easier do you need than a drop box? You can register online typically. Drop boxes have pretty much made 99% of the excuses irrelevant
By removing the barriers from the article. Drop boxes are like dial up modem speed. There is nothing blocking advances to Gbps except installed barriers.
You mean places like Texas that restricted drop boxes to one per county, so that people may have to drive well over an hour round trip to access the drop box? What is the benefit of that, outside of making it harder to vote?
Employers will allow their employees to go and vote - but they aren't necessarily going to pay them for it (if they are hourly). In Texas, you have to pay for 2 hours. We've seen areas where lines go 4-6 hours or more. So long lines for people who live paycheck to paycheck ... well, you do the math.
