LOL why would you limit in-person dining, superspreader political rallies, in-gym workouts and SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE FOOTBALL to let kids go to school

French President Emmanuel Macron announced a nationwide lockdown Wednesday night after his country topped more than 50,000 new cases in a single 24-hour period over the weekend, but schools for the most part will remain open. “I have decided that we must return to confinement,” he said Wednesday night. “The whole territory is concerned.”

The same scenario is playing out in Germany, which is also under new lockdown measures for all leisure activities. There, too, keeping schools open is a priority both to ensure that kids whose families can’t afford multiple computers or who have spotty internet won’t have to sacrifice their children’s education. Addressing the nation to announce new measures on Wednesday, Chancellor Angela Merkel made it clear that “social sacrifices must be made” to ensure schools stay open. “We will do everything so that our children are not the losers of the pandemic,” she said. “School and daycare need to be the most important things.”

The truth is they are trying to save Christmas more than schools.
One way or the other if nothing is done lockdowns will happen and Christmas will be ruined and with it even more financial ruin.

Because Europeans aren't like Asians who wear masks 100% 24/7 so without a good old lockdown it's impossible to control the situation.

Today Belgium also locked down for good for a month.
Basically the only european country that is doing well with soft rules is only Finland and for some reason Slovakia who decided to test all the population.

Yet, their increase is signifacantly less than in the United States. They've already ended the first wave and our undergoing a second wave. We haven't even ended the first wave here, yet. America has really fallen.

It varies by country. France is in a complete meltdown - they are averaging 45,000 daily cases. Adjusted for population, that's the equivalent of the US having ~240,000 cases daily. Our high so far is 97,000 (today). Spain, Italy and the UK are above the US level as well per capita daily new cases. In terms of spread, waves aren't really a measure of anything in terms of them being on a 2nd vs 1st. It's not like the virus has to die to then come back with a larger infection.

Their winter hits earlier than ours, so it may be a bad sign for where we're headed - but it doesn't seem like either the US or Europe has this remotely under control. The big question looking forward is deaths - has the virus become less deadly, or is that going to skyrocket?

Agreed. The death rate, testing rate etc. seem worse in the U.S. Just going by cases has too many variables. Hospitalization and positive rate percentage seem like a more reliable gauge.

A reason are those domestic abuse cases.

    Homeschooling faces certain challenges.

Or you get slandered to have beaten a kid.

Ariza can tell a story or two.

Azns do not wear them 24/7....that's some slightly racist view. :D

They do not hug, kiss openly, they keep distances without the virus, it is cultural.

There's no definite lockdown end date here in Germany, the lockdown is aimed for the whole month of November but they'll revise infection data on Nov 16 and later to decide how to continue.

They'll compensate businesses with <=50 employees for 75% of their usual income.

Here, our current plan keep schools closed, keep bars and restaurants open until maybe a half a million peopel are dead.

Affected business will be compensated with zero dollars and they will get about 25% of their normal sales volume.

It's a necessary sacrifice in the name of growth.
