Shane Battier as President of Basketball Operations would be a genius move by Tilman.

But Shane is too smart and Tilly to cheap to hold out hope for a no-brainer like this to happen.

I will disregard the Morey slander, I know you are still coping with his exit.

Lucas has been a coach, he can show him the ropes. I fail to see just chasing former coaches for the sake of it. McMillan as a head coach has not proven himself to be great defensive specialist or anything. Hornacek has done what? I'm fine with Silas, I love it and he can have some head coaches alongside him, but the way it's presented right now seems to be big name chasing and I'd rather have a staff of Silas, Lucas & Turner than Silas, Hornacek & McMillan.

lol, she is a stick figure by Harden's standards. She is not Harden's type whatsoever.

Can’t believe anyone would want Rockets coaches if they were up 3-1 and then blew it.

But whatever! Lol. Doc Rivers, Cassell , Ty Lue get more desirable...go figure

I admit, I get nostalgic about Sam. He had a lot of guts. A multiple NBA champion doesn't necessarily make a great coach. He is good at player development according to Nook, who has great in depth knowledge regarding players, coaches, management. Sam would be better on a younger upcoming team based on what I've learned about his coaching ability. We need a younger Jeff B who can be a capable, willing helper to Silas.

Like I told a member here on CF’s, John Lucas would not have been alone, neither will Silas. Hornacek and Nate
McMillen have been head coaches before.

Morey probably knows Harden is cool with Cassell. B/R tapped on my Harden to Philly trade because Morey is now there. I would take Ben Simmons as my new center. Moving Tucker to SF. Trade Westbrook for players to surround Simmons since Harden will not be here to complain of a Westbrook trade.

Bunch of SF’s surrounding Simmons. With Simmons being the only non 3-point shooter on the team. Ton of picks.
Like the Thunder trading PG-13 and Westbrook......get right back in this re-tooled. Simmons contract allows for Tucker
extension plus quality players surrounding Ben. Just my humble opinion..

    PG)Teague.............
    SG) McLemore.......Gerald Green
    SF) Tucker..............House
    PF) Covington.........
    C) Ben Simmons.....

Just the core.......plus other pieces from Harden/Westbrook trades (obtaining Bobby Portis with Westbrook trade?)

    exactly!

Look at (1) willingness to spend on executive and coaching talent, (2) willingness to spend tax, (3) destination locations, (4) market size. so where do we fall? its not looking good.

    Tier 1 - all 4 indicators
    Warriors
    Clippers
    Heat
    Lakers
    Nets
    Celtics

    Tier 2 - 3 indicators
Mavs - never been a destination for max FAs
    Raptors - same as above
Sixers - only ever payed the tax twice
Blazers never been a destination for max FAs.
Bulls - yes they're moving up.they've got the market size and location. now they've spent on karnisovas and got a real NBA coach.

    Tier 3 - 2 indicators
Spurs - have spent on front office and coaching, and have even payed the tax 6 times!
Nuggets - always had a big name GM and/or coach, have a decent market size
Knicks - they've lost their destination location status, and even though they have unlimited spending its never on the right people

    Tier 4 - 1 indicator
Pacers - spent on pritchard (and previously a lot of big name GMs, executives, and coaches)
    wolves - spent on Rosas
    kings - spent on Ncnair
Jazz - spent on Lindsey and snyder (and always payed for GMs and coaches)
    Grizzlies - spent on Cho
    Thunder - spent on Presti
Bucks - have shown to spend on coaching
Cavs - actually have spent the tax 7 times (4th most in the league)
magic - have shown to invest in coaching (SVG, Vogel, Clifford)

    Tier 5 - 0 indicators
    Suns
    magic
    hawks
    wizards
    pistons
    hornets
    pelicans

Right now I'd put us in tier 4. Houston has market size. I think the word is out on tilman and we've lost our status as a destination location. if we didn't have harden, and had max cap space, we would not be in the running for a max FA. tilman is not willing to spend the tax on the roster and now he's not willing to spend on the bench or in the office. its a hard fall since in 2017 I'd put us in tier 1!

we do have some excellent defensive players in roco PJ and harden. house, ego, and rus were average based on their analytics. everyone else was a negative.

however, we were bad when turner was running the D. then we went back to the switch everything concept and that worked better, especially in the playoffs as you said.

now we lost morey and MDA who believed in switching everything. will stone and Silas want to switch everything? will they go more traditional as turner was trying to do early in the season when we were bad on defense even with good defensive players? that's why I think we need a good defensive AHC.

Darren Erman was called baby Thibs by Rondo and KG when he was an assistant on championship Celts team.

Dray, Klay and Jrue called Erman a defensive genius.

Erman is coaching Celts G League team right now and is still available.

Hornacek would have worked with JVG.

Hate the idea of blowing it up so soon with both Harden and Russ still in their prime.

Just not ready to stop contending for a ring when we are still THIS close.

What about a trade where every team wins:

    LAL: Russ Westbrook
    PHI: Paul George
    HOU: Ben Simmons

Clips - Kawhi gets his superstar PG, Russ returns home to LA, Clips are rid of lockerroom conflict

76ers - add complementary superstar to Embiid and another 3-D floor spacer

Rockets - add 6'10 version of Russ Westbrook/Clint Capela hybrid

    2nd trade:

    PHX: Eric Gordon, Rockets FRP
    HOU: Kelly Oubre Jr

    3rd trade:

    ORL: Danuel House, Rockets FRP
    HOU: Mo Bamba

MLE: Nerlens Noel, Aron Baynes or Meyers Leonard

    Harden
    Oubre
    RoCo
    Simmons
    Bamba

*Bench: PJ, Nwaba, McLemore, Noel, Bruno (vet min), Broekhoff (vet min), TJohnson (vet min)

**Instead of FRP in Magic trade, package McLemore instead

***Rockets get younger, longer and more athletic without having to completely dismantle team.

I like to give Rafer crap about his teardrop, but at least he was a legit PG. He looked like Magic Johnson after watching Charlie Ward, Rick Brunson, and Luther Head try to run the point for a year.

JVG point guards were pure garbage. That changed literally overnight once Morey came on board.

It was like Morey was the PG whisperer.

    Aaron Brooks
    Kyle Lowery
    Goran Dragic
    Pat Beverley
    Ty Lawson
    Lou Williams
    Chris Paul
    Russ Westbrook

Heck even Jeremy Lin was better than what JVG trotted out every season.
